Well, Nintendo has done it again—they have expanded an existing franchise to new highs (and New Horizons ). I’m talking, of course, about Animal Crossing: New Horizons, the most recent first-party release for the Nintendo Switch.

On today’s good news, we’re discussing how Animal Crossing keeps you wanting to come back daily, and how we may be able to implement some of these lessons in our own life.

The Sailor Who Fell from Grace with the Sea (午後の曳航) pt. 2: “Maturity”

Last week on It’s Lit, we began our discussion of Yukio Mishima’s The Sailor Who Fell from Grace with the Sea by describing ideals held by the 13-year-old protagonist and his friends. This week, we discuss what it looks like to grow older and fail to fulfill these ideals. Listen to the cast today to get the boy’s views on conventional maturity, “or, as the chief would call it, ‘perversion’” (143).

On this week’s Productivity Design, I’ve toned down the goals in service of focus. Some ideas from recent weeks are still used, but everything is slightly toned down, with a great big optional section for those badges that I may get, should I find the time and calling to do so.

On this week’s SpiritCast, the topic is Elimination, or Resoluteness. As we build up our strength, negative forces can start to try and dismantle what we’ve worked for. Hear what good ol’ King Wen and Confucius have to say about that on this week’s discussion of the I Ching!

Another Week of the BenjiCast in the books! This week, I didn’t do so great on my badges, but I did succeed in getting up at 0400h every day and memorizing 48 Kanji a day. On today’s Cast, some words on that journey!

The Sailor who Fell from Grace with the Sea, part 1: Ideals.

Today we begin our discussion of Yukio Mishima’s The Sailor who Fell from Grace with the Sea. This book blew my mind, and I’m excited to start getting into it! We set up this unit with a discussion of Ideals. What does Noboru, the 13-year-old protagonist, idealize? How does this materialize in his life? And what do ideals look like in whom this idealization has materialized?
