Marcus Aurelius’ Meditations, pt. 3: The Mind is Free

In our first segment on Meditations, we discussed Marcus Aurelius’ view that the Universe is perfect. Last week, we discussed his assertion that Change is the Fundamental force in the Universe. Today, we tie those two together in our discussion of how to groom the mind to understand and live harmoniously with this perfect, ever-changing Universe!

For this week’s productivity design, not much is changing. I’m keeping the concept of smaller badges within each skill, and I’m tightening up on my morning and evening routines. Other than that, the greatest difference is the design itself, which I find to be an aesthetic successor to last week’s attempt.

坎, Darkness

Today on the SpiritCast, we will be talking about lesson 29 from the I Ching, 坎, meaning ‘The Abysmal’ or ‘Darkness’. To the ancient Chinese, generally not a sea-faring people, water symbolized great ambiguity and the darkness of the unknown. This character symbolizes both water and the dark pit or hole that you find water in. Hear more about this symbol in today’s BenjiCast!

To start Week 9 of BenjiCast, we will be covering lessons 62, 小過, Little Exceeding, and 55, 豐, Abundance, using Alfred Huang’s translation of the I Ching. When things go well, it’s easy to want to push forward indiscriminately; but when things are at their peak, the decline is coming next. Sometimes it is better to take small steps, share what wisdom you have at your best, and prepare for the challenges that await.
