My Grandmother and my Mother have both transitioned to a higher level of living and Mother's Day sometimes create some discomfort. I lost them both fairly young and I feel like a motherless child sometimes and experience a range of emotions; pain, greif, anger, depression and jealousy. I envy those who have their parents and grandparents and the lives that get to lead but I want to take an opportunity to remember my loved ones with great joy.

Over the past few decades, masculinity researchers have documented this gendered reality through the identification of dominant masculine norms, such as restrictive emotionality and emotional control (e.g., Conformity to Masculinity Norms Inventory (CMNI) and Male Role Norms Inventory-Adolescent-revised (MRNI-A-r). These norms can place significant pressure on boys and men to repress vulnerable emotions while embodying power and invincibility.” - Dr. Christopher Reigeluth

In this show I want to address how men manage their emotions and what it’s like to have fears, stressors, triggers and traumas and how we cope we those things.

For so long we’ve been programmed to think that any expression of our emotions is a weakness or somehow effeminate but I’ve come to realize how inhumane that is. It is inhumane, insensitive and inconsiderate to ask a man to not be in healthy alignment with his emotions.

I am not looking to define manhood but give little boys, young men and mature men to evaluate and re-assess their own definition of manhood. This is an opportunity to reflect on what tools we’ve used to manifest our manhood and if they’ve worked for or against us.

Romantic relationships seem to be one of the most important achievements in our society and I believe it is because we are wired for connection and companionship. Everyone has a bottomless reserve of love stored within them and even when the relationships run out, the love doesn’t. We spend our lives trying to find someone to give it to.

Then there are the cheaters who freely SPREAD THE LOVE and they have that right! So the question is, have you been cheated on and/or are you the cheater? If so – what did you do?

I find that there are two types of cheaters;

CHEATER: Those who’ve done it once for very specific reasons and never do it again

Question: Is that you? Has it happened to you?

CHEATING: The others who do it habitually despite being caught and/or exposed.

Question: Is this you? Why are you doing it?

 

Either way, it is my opinion that there is a relax of values or maybe none at all. Truth be told, it doesn’t matter because we all get to do what we want with our bodies right!? Right!?!? Maybe…

When do you move on?

Should you stay/go?When is the right time to leave?How do you make sure it never happens again?

Heartbreak is inevitable because life is a collective of heartbreaks, highs and lows. Living a good life is not about never experiencing anything bad but figuring out how to live well in the wake of calamity. Life is a constant turn of events that promote us to the highest of highs and also responsible for excruciating traumatic lows and NO ONE is exempt. It doesn’t matter your status or socio-economic make-up, at some point life is going to beat your ass, so as Deanie used to say to me “You’re gonna have to learn how to take a good ass whooping and give a few good ones…”

My question to you is, when life comes with a heartbreak, how do you deal with them? Primarily your romantic and professional relationships? There are some heartbreaks that can be avoided but sometimes we’re the reason for the dramatic down-turn when we could have avoided it by taking a right turn.
