Best Boys

Call 911, because this episode is on FIRE!! Jk it’s just one of the ten fires that Brad Pitt starts in this movie, the second film in our incredibly spooky Halloween vampire series. Interview with the Vampire is a homoerotic sensation in which Brad Pitt, a very sad man with a very sexy blowout, is turned into a vampire by a dandy undead Tom Cruise. Essentially, they hate each other so much until Tommy turns baby Kirsten Dunst into a tiny vampire as a companion for Sad Brad. CHAOS ENSUES. First up on the Best Boys Halloween Vampyr Series is Bram Stoker's Dracula--aka a really horny movie about a really horny bat. Jk, it's technically a 1992 masterpiece from Francis Ford Coppola about Count Dracula (Gary Oldman), a 15th-century prince, condemned to live off the blood of the living for eternity. Fast forward to the 1890s, where young lawyer Jonathan Harker (Keanu Reeves) is sent to Dracula's castle to finalize a land deal, but when the Count sees a photo of Harker's fiancée, Mina (Winona Ryder), the spitting image of Dracula's dead wife Elisabetta, he imprisons Harker and sets off for London to track Mina down. It's camp, it's horror, it's art, it's literally a perfect movie and no, we will not be taking questions at this time. THANK YOU AND HAPPY SPOOKTOBER.

Aaron Sorkin directing? Gross. Nicole Kidman playing comedic genius and overall badass Lucille Ball? Yes please. While our feelings on this performance are mixed, Nicole breathes life into parts of Lucy that were rarely seen by the public and does it flawlessly. In this 2021 film written and directed by Aaron Sorkin, Nicole plays Lucille Ball as she experiences personal and professional hurdles that jeopardize her career and her marriage.

We've said it once and we will say it again...Nicole Kidman's performance in The Hours (2002) is the best of her career. Poignant and masterful and, my god, does she look good in that prosthetic nose--she stands out in a trio of some of the most powerful actresses of our time. Nicole takes on the role of Virginia Woolf as she writes her famous novel Mrs. Dalloway in 1923. Her story crosses space and time to connect with the lives of Laura Brown in 1951 and Clarissa Vaughn in 2001, two women dealing with life, love, and the difficulty of all that comes with the hours.

There's a MAJOR twist in this film and it's not just Nicole Kidman's Grade A horror movie acting. "The Others" is an exemplary ghost story about a deeply religious mother trying to protect her children while questioning her reality. The perfect amuse bouche to spooky season.

This week, Monica and Jessica do a deep dive into Hollywood's favorite ingenue--the Princess of Passion, Amy Adams. Before she gained worldwide recognition as a Disney princess, Amy won the hearts of critics with her Oscar nominated performance in Junebug. She proved her dramatic range in films like American Hustle, and then drew on all of her talents to move audiences with her role in Arrival. She is one of the most versatile and entrancing actresses of her generation and we are stoked to call her a Daddy.
