Best Boys

This week, Jessica and Monica take on a Daddy that truly needs no introduction. Tom Hanks has been regarded as arguably the best actor of all time for decades, so it’s no surprise that he’s become an icon of cinema. He made a name for himself as a leading man of rom-coms in Splash, broke our hearts but kept us captivated in Cast Away, and told a touching yet nail-biting story of survival in Captain Phillips. He has become America’s Dad and we can’t wait to see what he does next.

Monica and Jessica are pretty certain Christian Bale’s Daddy energy speaks for itself. He stunned audiences with the psychological thriller/black comedy that is American Psycho, overcame the larger than life story in The Prestige, and completely transformed himself to play the terrifying Dick Cheney in Vice. He is one of the most talented actors of our time and his dedication to the craft is borderline insane--let’s hear it for Daddy Christian Bale.

Jessica and Monica can’t get enough of the utterly stunning and wildly talented Daddy Angelina Jolie. Angie carved her place in Hollywood after her Oscar-winning performance in Girl, Interrupted, she gave one of the most dimensional depictions of grief in Changeling, and she embraced a truly unique character in Maleficent. She is a force that is so much more than the her gorgeous exterior and she continues to delight us at every turn

This week Monica and Jessica dig into Hollywood’s favorite intense hunk, Oscar Isaac. Daddy Oscar became a household name after his starring role in the Coen Brothers’ Inside Llewyn Davis, he flipped crime film archetypes on their heads in A Most Violent Year, and he redefined the mad scientist as the morally ambiguous genius in Ex Machina. He’s an actor that holds so much talent yet continues to surprise us--let’s hear it for Daddy Oscar Isaac.

Everyone knows how much we love A24 and their selection of spooky films is a perfect way to usher in this Hallow’s Eve. They made an international name for themselves with the quietly chilling The Witch, reignited our love for Toni Collette in Hereditary, and shocked audiences with Midsommar, one of the most unique horror movies of our time. Happy Halloween from Daddy A24!

This week, Monica and Jessica dig into everyone’s favorite Aussie--no, no, everyone’s OTHER favorite Aussie--the angelic icon, Cate Blanchett. Daddy Cate rose to fame with the titular role in 1998’s Elizabeth, she captivated audiences despite her morally deplorable character in Notes on a Scandal, and she dazzled in her maturity as a seasoned actor in Carol. She’s considered one of the finest actors of her generation for a reason--we bow down to Daddy Cate Blanchett.

She’s not like other girls, she’s Rachel Weisz. This week, Monica and Jessica dig into British Daddy Rachel Weisz aka Mrs. James Bond aka Our Favourite. She won her Oscar for playing outspoken activist Tessa Quale in The Constant Gardener, made us all rethink the importance we place upon romance in The Lobster, and stole our hearts as the scheming yet emotional Lady Sarah in The Favourite. She is an underutilized force in Hollywood and we can’t wait to see what she does next.

Description This week, Monica and Jessica take on the king of the twist ending, M. Night Shyamalan. Daddy M. literally stunned audiences early on with The Sixth Sense, made a unique take on a superhero origin story with Unbreakable, and somehow made those CGI aliens look decent in Signs. While his films are far from perfect, his unique point of view and endless pursuit of surprising audiences makes him a true Daddy.

Do Jessica and Monica have an obsession with Goop? Yes! Is Gwyneth Paltrow an elegant yet unhinged queen? Also yes! This week we chat about Lord Gwyneth’s scheming beginnings in Emma, her radiant Oscar-winning performance in Shakespeare in Love, and her dark turn to emotional manipulation in Two Lovers. She’s a wild yet fascinating woman that we can’t get enough of and is undeniably a Daddy.

Monica and Jessica are here to tell you that Steve Carell is so much more than his comedic roles. He made his true dramatic debut and stole our hearts in Little Miss Sunshine, totally transformed into the deeply disturbed John du Pont in Foxcatcher, and served as our moral compass in a tale about greed in The Big Short. He’s a Daddy who can do it all and we can’t wait to see what else can come from our boy Steve.
