1. Good marketing isn't enough if nobody notices it.

You can have an amazing product, service or idea but if your marketing blends in, in the feed, your audience will scroll right past it.

2. You don't need a massive budget to get attention.

Some of Shay's most memorable campaigns have been low-budget. Idyllic’s phone booth campaign was built and filmed simply. It was the idea that did the heavy lifting.

3. Look outside your industry for inspiration.

One of Shay's best pieces of advice? Stop copying what everyone else in your industry is doing.

Look at businesses in completely different industries. Find something that works there and ask yourself ‘How could we make that work for us?’

How to Make Your Business More Fun

What if the key to growing your business isn't doing more, but doing more of what you enjoy?

I explore why there's a collective belief that successful businesses should be exhausting, instead, I believe we should design a business around the work that energises us.

Because fun isn't frivolous, it might be strategic.

We spend so much time talking about productivity, discipline, strategy and growth that we rarely stop to ask a much simpler question:

Do I actually enjoy running my business?

In the ep, I share some memories (and mistakes) from my own businesses, the difference between building a business around what you think you should be doing versus what genuinely lights you up and the concept of your 'flower bucket' - those tasks that take up your time but aren't why you started the business in the first place.

What if we didn't wait until we were successful to enjoy our business. Fun doesn't need to be the reward but instead, it was our motivation.

Here are my favourite takeaways from the ep.

1. Stop confusing productivity with progress. You don't need to squeeze more out of every hour or add another productivity hack to your morning routine.

2. Find your flower bucket.

Every business owner has one. It's the task, responsibility or part of the job that drains you. Identify yours and ask yourself: Can I delegate it, automate it, eliminate it or do less of it?

3. Fun creates momentum

When you're doing work that energises you, consistency becomes easier. That momentum is far more useful than waiting to feel motivated every day.

How to Make Your Marketing Memorable.

You don't need more content, but you do need your ideal client to see themselves in your content and your messaging.

Seems easy enough to do, right?

If you're posting consistently but enquiries still aren't coming in, the problem might not be your reach, your followers or the algorithm, it might be that your marketing isn't making your ideal client feel like you're speaking directly to them.

In this episode, I unpack why recognition is more valuable than reach, why specificity makes your business memorable and how to create marketing that makes the right people stop scrolling and think, Oh my God, she's talking about me.

Because your ideal client knows they have a problem before they know you're their solution.

Before you publish your next post, ask yourself these questions:

1. Does this make the right person feel seen and understood?

2. Does this show how I can help them?

3. Does this give them a reason to trust me?

That's the mental checklist I use before creating content, rather than asking whether something will go viral or please the algorithm gods.

Because I'd rather have 10 people feel deeply understood than 10,000 people be mildly entertained.

Go and look at your last five Instagram or LinkedIn posts, but don't look at them as you.

Look at them through the eyes of your ideal client.

• Would they know exactly who I help?

• Would they understand the problem I solve?

• Would they know why I'm different?

• Or would they simply think, That's nice?

Because nice doesn't sell. Recognition does.

One of the biggest shifts I want you to make is to move away from selling what you do and towards selling what your work makes possible for your client.

Your clients aren't really buying a logo, a strategy document, a coaching session or a workbook.

They're buying the outcome those things create for their business.

As I say in the episode:

Deliverables don't equal higher revenue.

Outcomes equal higher revenue.

Once you understand the value you're creating, you have a much stronger foundation for deciding what you should charge.

The 4 pillars of profitable pricing

1. The value you create

What are you actually bringing to the table? What's your expertise, your sweet spot and the transformation you create?

The more clearly you understand the value of your work, the easier it becomes to price around the outcome rather than the hours or deliverables involved.

2. The value to your client

Who are you solving problems for?

One of the easiest ways to charge more is to get better at identifying and speaking to the people who value what you do and have the budget to invest in it.

Your pricing, positioning and ideal client need to make sense together.

3. Articulating your value

It's not enough to know you're good at what you do. Your audience needs to understand why your work matters to them.

That's where your positioning, messaging, marketing and sales come in. If you're talking about deliverables instead of the problem you're solving or transformation you're creating, you may be leaving money on the table.

4. Conviction

Finally, you need to believe in the value you're offering.

If you're uncomfortable naming your price, immediately discount when someone questions it, or give away extra work for free, your pricing problem may not actually be a pricing problem.

It may be a belief problem.

Clients are attracted to certainty, so learning to communicate your value with confidence matters.
