Bethany Cosentino, best known as one half of the indie rock duo Best Coast, is back with her debut solo album Natural Disaster on July 28th. And boy, is it a nugget.
In this episode of Consequence Uncut, Associate Editor Paolo Ragusa sits down with Cosentino to talk about the the album’s personal and political notes. They discuss everything from the inspiration behind the songs to the challenges of making a solo record. Cosentino also opens up about how the summer of 2020 was a catalyst for the album.
“How could I sort of write about this horrific experience of climate change, police brutality, women’s rights being taken from them…just the horror show of America. How can I make sense of this and reckon with this?” she says.
Cosentino previewed the thought-provoking and catchy new effort with the first three singles: “It’s Fine,” “For A Moment,” and “Easy.” Pre-orders for Natural Disaster are available here, and you can find Cosentino’s new tour dates here.
