Chicago Mayor Defends Limiting Interviews To People Of Color
Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot is under fire after limiting media interviews only to people of color to cover her two-year anniversary in office.
A reporter for NBC's Chicago affiliate, Mary Ann Ahern, tweeted about the move stating Lightfoot's office said, "only Black and brown journalists are getting one-on-one interviews."
Democrat Lightfoot, who is Black, defended the move by saying she has been struck by the "overwhelming whiteness and maleness" of Chicago media outlets.
One Chicago Tribune journalist, who is a person of color, has turned down a scheduled interview in protest with many others criticizing the policy.
