• A reporter for NBC's Chicago affiliate, Mary Ann Ahern, tweeted about the move stating Lightfoot's office said, "only Black and brown journalists are getting one-on-one interviews."
• Democrat Lightfoot, who is Black, defended the move by saying she has been struck by the "overwhelming whiteness and maleness" of Chicago media outlets.
• One Chicago Tribune journalist, who is a person of color, has turned down a scheduled interview in protest with many others criticizing the policy.
