The provision of the gospel, for the forgiveness of sin, and the salvation of sinners, consistently with God's glory and justice, shows that God is love. That's why, as recipients of God's love, our response should be that of love, compassion, and forgiveness of others so that God is seen through our words and actions of love.

After demonstrating powers that exceed anything in this world, many people begin to strive to follow Christ as they anticipate a Kingdom. But, in shocking contrast, the King proclaims that his followers will not walk in glory but in a comfortless pursuit.

There are many competing voices in our world today attempting to get our attention. Jesus said, "My sheep hear my voice..." (John 10), but how can we discern the voice of Christ? How can we distinguish His voice from all others.

Take a moment to bring before the Lord the things that weigh on your mind. If you are worried about something, ask Him to carry it for you and to show you how to handle it. If you are discouraged or disappointed about something, tell Him about it. Whatever your current situation, take some time to talk to Him, and ask Him to meet you with truth from His Word that speaks specifically and directly into your life today.

Matthew has been emphasizing the authority of Christ in teaching and now transitions to the practical outworking of his authority. As King, Jesus extends the blessings of his kingdom to the weak, the broken, the outcast, and the rejects of society. As Messiah, his jurisdiction knows no bounds.

Christians who are well acquainted with God's Word should be able to discern those who teach doctrines according to the apostles, and those who contradict them. The true test of the Christian faith is in a person's doctrine concerning Christ, His Person, and Office.

Acts 2:39 tells us that “the promise [of salvation and life through Christ] is for...all who are far off, as many as the Lord our God will call to Himself.” We have been those who are far off. We have been the distant and wandering. We have been separated from Christ, and but for His grace, we would be still. If God has called you to Himself, take a moment to thank God that He has shown you who He is and has offered to you the promise of salvation. Ask Him to meet you today, right where you are, as you open His Word.

If you fall into sin like I do, than you should be all too familiar with that feeling of condemnation that comes after you stumble. Thankfully, if the love of Christ abides in you, than your heart should also be receiving assurance from the Holy Spirit that God is greater than sin and condemnation.
