No one is immune to the power of ideas. Whereas some ideas are good, some are horrific. Any idea that diminishes the deity and perfect humanity of Jesus Christ and His rightful place of preeminence in our lives can take us captive, extracting the best parts of us.  Instead, if we look to the person and work of Jesus Christ, who is 100% God and 100% Man, we will discover that He alone offers what no other figure, philosophy, religion, or worldview can do: the free gift of eternal life, absolute freedom from spiritual death, the complete forgiveness and payment of all our sins, and the ultimate defeat of all our spiritual enemies.  Therefore, as captivating as certain ideas may be, no other substitute will do. Jesus alone makes us complete.

As we run the race set before us in pursuit of God discouragement can occur. However, the Hebrew writer calls us to consider the sufferings of Christ so that we can avoid discouragement and so that we can be encouraged in our walk with the Lord.
