Man's chief end is to glorify God and to enjoy Him forever. This can also be understood like this- Man's chief end is to glorify God by enjoying Him forever.

A. W. Tozer, speaking ultimately of the glory of God, wrote, -The man who comes to a right belief about God is relieved of ten thousand temporal problems, for he sees at once that these have to do with matters which at the most cannot concern him for very long- but even if the multiple burdens of time may be lifted from him, the one mighty single burden of eternity begins to press down upon him with a weight more crushing than all the woes of the world piled one upon another. That mighty burden is his obligation to God. It includes an instant and lifelong duty to love God with every power of mind and soul, to obey Him perfectly, and to worship Him acceptably.- -The Knowledge of the Holy, emphasis added, pp. 10-11-

The language Christ used here evokes the thought of love, concern, and care when it comes to the struggling Christian. Again church discipline is not the result of a religiously arrogant people kicking someone out of their club. Rather, it is the actions of tough love which the world endorses in the case of an intervention on the part of a family member struggling with alcohol. The goal is not to remove the loved one from one's life, but to stop them in their descent to the grave-

John Calvin wrote, -The commencement, therefore, involves a general principle, that man was formed to be a social animal... -And- although God pronounced, concerning Adam, that it would not be profitable for him to be alone, yet I do not restrict the declaration to his person alone, but rather regard it as a common law of man's vocation, so that everyone ought to receive it as said to himself, that solitude is not good...- -Calvin's Commentaries, Genesis, pg. 128-.

When God deigns to deliver one of His children over to Satan for -for the destruction of his flesh, that his spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus- -1 Corinthians 5-5b-, and we keep quiet, we risk dishonoring the Lord when the world sees God's treatment of what appears to be a child of God in good standing.

Christ said, -upon this rock I will build my church.- The question is this- What is the rock- The only possible -rock- upon which Christ would build His church is the apostolic confession of Peter- -You are the Christ, the Son of God.-

From the fall onward a war has raged between the Kingdom of Darkness and the Kingdom of God- Accordingly, in the words of Peter, we must -be alert- -1 Peter 5-8a-- We live in a war zone in which Satan --prowls about like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour- -1 Peter 5-8b-- And yet, we must not be frightened-

When Peter says in our text that the Prophets received God's word through -the Spirit of Christ within them- he was endeavoring to convey to the people of God that the Salvation proclaimed by the Prophets was not of human origin or invention- rather it truly was and is of God- As such, it is genuine and true-

From Isaiah 55-3, we read of the resurrection of Christ- From Deuteronomy 21-23 we read of His cross- Habakkuk 2-4 speaks of the righteousness that comes through faith. In other words, the doctrine of Justification- Luke 20-37 tells us that the O-d Testament taught of Christ's Resurrection- Listen to the further statements of Christ concerning the Old Testament witness to the gospel in Luke 24-46-47 - Acts 26-22-23. Hebrews 9-18-22 tells us that the Old Testament taught that -without the shedding of blood -there is- no forgiveness.- From John 8 we read that -Abraham rejoiced to see Christ's day- -v. 56-. And speaking of the life, death, resurrection, and ascension of Christ along with His established Kingdom, Peter said, -And likewise, all the prophets who have spoken, from Samuel and his successors onward, also announced these days.- -Acts 3-24-

The standard which God's people are to measure the validity of prophecy are these three standards--1. 100- accuracy, 100- of the time.-2. Perform miracles-signs.-3. The word or message could not contradict the rest of Scripture.
