Has it ever occurred to you how alone, how completely and utterly alone, Christ was in His passion-suffering?

Our two texts focus our attention on His aloneness. The one text shows the disciples deserting Jesus: the other text shows even God the Father deserting Jesus. Together our texts paint this picture: Jesus Christ the Son of God and Son of Man was forsaken by God and Man.

On the night He was betrayed, knowing full well the betrayal and abandonment He would experience at the hand of His disciples, Jesus gave His disciples (and us) a meal of pure Gospel…His body and blood.

Rejoice and don’t be afraid, your King is coming!

Like our previous Lenten words, prayer has been a Lenten tradition (as well as a Christian's daily walk of faith) from the earliest observances of Lent. In our text Jesus illustrates how prayer is not manipulating God so that our will is done but rather God's Will be done in us.

Like our previous Lenten words, foot washing has been a Lenten custom from the earliest observances of Lent. In our text the Lord Jesus uses foot washing to illustrate how He has and will serve His disciples…setting an example for them in their service to God and God's people.
