In this free preview clip of the second episode (of two) in our deep dive Patreon series on the post-TNN death spiral of ECW, Kris and David look at an unsigned letter that Wade Keller ran in the Pro Wrestling Torch in May 2001. A couple months before Wade would accuse Paul Heyman of sending numerous burner email accounts to fabricate demand for ECW joining the WWF’s WCW invasion angle, he get what reads like…well…a letter from a Paul Heyman burner account. And it’s very, very obvious. If you like this level of peak Paul Heyman shenanigans, then you’ll love how this story develops in the full version of the episode for Between The Sheets Patreon members.

Full show description:

2021 is *still* the 20th anniversary of American professional wrestling changing forever, and you know what that means: The second and final part of our deep dive into the death of ECW! With ECW having no shows booked, Paul Heyman goes to the WWF as an announcer and creative team member…while also forgetting to tell inDemand that the scheduled Living Dangerously pay-per-view event wasn’t happening. ECW’s parent company, HHG Corp, files for bankruptcy, leading to a fuller understanding of the company’s finances…but conspicuously makes no mention of ECW’s intellectual property or receivables due from their ongoing home video deals with Pioneer, Delta, and/or RF Video. Wade Keller gets a very conspicuous unsigned letter defending Heyman…and then numerous wrestling websites start getting a deluge of emails demanding ECW be added to the WWF’s WCW invasion angle. ECW does, in fact, get added to the angle…pissing off the bankruptcy trustee and motivating Wade Keller and Dave Meltzer to point to Heyman as the person behind the aforementioned deluge of emails.

There could be no more appropriate final episode to the ECW on TNN/Death of ECW series than this one. It is Paul Heyman at his Paul Heyman-est. Enjoy!

2021 is still the 20th anniversary of American professional wrestling changing forever, and you know what that means: We pivot from the sale of WCW back to ECW for the brief and depressing post-TNN era. This show, the first of two “Death of ECW” shows, picks up where we left off with the end of the TNN series in November 2000 and takes us through the end of January 2001. That means, basically, that we’re going just past the final ECW shows; next month, we’ll pick up in February and go through the start of ECW’s introduction into the WWF’s WCW invasion storyline.

So, what do we talk about this time? Topics include the continuation of all of the drama involving late and missing paychecks, there being no “November Rain” video before November to Remember, Rob Van Dam peacing out over money owed and a friend of his causing a stir with a letter to WrestlingObserver.com, cancelled house shows, whether or not the WWF had a temporary moratorium on signing ECW talent, another Paul Heyman-led team meeting, Paul going off on Steve Corino to both newsletters, Paul going off on the Torch in the pages of the Torch, Corino’s “Torch Talk” interview, whether or not Paul would really give anyone a release, alleged TV talks with Fox, Paul kayfabing everyone to make them think he’s spread too thin, FARMCLUB.COM, the end of ECW Hardcore TV, the infamous Observer story about Corino’s contract, rumors of Fusient buying ECW, the wrestlers kayfabing their farewell ceremony, and much more.
