"It is what it is", "You can't win 'em all"... When a challenge stumps us, or we find ourselves with a dilemma for which we have no immediate explanation or answer, we tend to resort to platitudes that allow us to set the problem aside. Handy though this is, there is a more sinister side-effect of these 'though-stopping clichés'.
