  • Episode 06: Evolon Live Monitoring, AI & Dispatch

In this episode of Beyond the Demo: The Ground Truth, Rob Oldham and Scott McQuarrie are joined by Tanner LaRocque from Evolon to take an in-depth look at how AI-powered video surveillance is changing the way security systems detect, verify, and respond to threats in real time.

    www.evolontech.com

Traditional surveillance systems are largely reactive—they record an incident and provide footage to investigate what happened afterward. Evolon takes a different approach by combining long-range object detection, AI verification, edge processing, and professional live monitoring to identify potential threats and initiate a response while an event is still happening.

We break down the complete process from detection to dispatch, including how Evolon uses AI to distinguish people and vehicles from animals, weather, lighting changes, and other common sources of false alarms. We also examine adjustable AI confidence thresholds, long-range detection, edge versus cloud processing, bandwidth limitations, compatibility with existing camera systems, and how analytics can be tuned to the conditions of an individual camera and site.

The conversation then moves beyond detection into what happens after a legitimate event is identified. We explore professional live monitoring, customized response procedures, live operator intervention, audio talk-down, lights and strobes, active deterrence, customer notification, and verified law enforcement dispatch. We also discuss the growing problem of false alarms and why video verification is becoming increasingly important to how police departments prioritize and respond to security alarms.

Throughout the episode, we look at how these technologies can be deployed across construction sites, equipment yards, commercial properties, warehouses, mobile surveillance trailers, and other locations where traditional security systems can struggle.

The goal is not simply to record better evidence after a crime has occurred. It's to build a surveillance system capable of detecting a threat, determining whether it is legitimate, and taking action quickly enough to potentially stop the incident before the damage is done.

  • Episode 03: Flock Cameras and the Surveillance State Debate

LPR (License Plate Recognition) cameras are one of the most powerful tools in modern surveillance—capable of tracking vehicle movement with incredible accuracy. But at what point does that capability cross the line into a violation of privacy?

Across the country, LPR systems are quietly building massive databases of where vehicles go, when they go there, and how often. That raises some serious questions. Is this data collection fully legal? Who actually owns and controls the data? And why are private businesses and retailers participating in the collection and storage of customer movement data in searchable databases?

In this episode of The Ground Truth podcast, we break down how LPR technology works, who’s using it, and the growing concerns around surveillance, data access, and personal privacy.
