Saying that should cease – KISS rule

This is not to be ceased completely, but to put the emphasis differently than most uses of the KISS (Keep It Simple and Straightforward) rule.  Many put the emphasis on Simple, or maybe the last S.  In reality, the phrase is designed to not overcomplicate simple things – but you need to start out with simple and keep it there.  Not dumb down something that is complicated, or complex.

While intense focus can get performance to be stable in the short term, for the majority of the time, performance is variable (like a sine curve) – sometimes above the median, other times below.

This is a tough one.  Should we always ensure we scratch someone’s back when they scratch ours?  There are some negative consequences to reciprocity.  We should at least be a bit more curious before engaging in reciprocity.
