Elana Levin is a pop culture critic with a long history in superhero comics and comics-inspired media. They host Graphic Policy Radio, a podcast at the intersection of genre media and movements for social change.

Elana works in digital organizing and communications for labor unions and community-based organizations.Their writing includes How Jack Kirby and DC Comics Predicted Trump With a Bloviating Demagogue in 1971 published by the Daily Beast.

Elana is currently working on Project Fulcrum, Get Free’s fan activist campaign organizing Star Wars Andor fans against the threat of the Empire in a galaxy not so far away at all.

On Monday, an Israeli settler killed 31 year old Awdah Hathaleen, a Palestinian teacher in the southern West Bank village of Umm al-Khair. 

We're joined by his friend, Mattan Berner-Kadish, an Israeli-American peace activist, who has worked with Awdah to defend his village for three years.

On this show we also honor our friend, known to us as Ben Faulding, and on the internet as Ben Ziggy, HipsterRebbe and evelkneidel. Ben passed this weekend at the age of 41.

Noam Shuster Eliassi is an activist-comedian who writes and performs in Arabic, English and Hebrew (with a touch of Farsi — her mom Iranian born, her dad a Jew in Palestine whose parents fled the Holocaust from Romania), frequently touching upon her experience growing up in “Oasis of Peace” (Neve Shalom/Wahat al-Salam), a mixed community where Palestinians and Jews live together by choice. Her satirical videos have gone viral throughout the Arab world. In 2019, Noam became the first Jewish performer to play the Palestine Comedy Festival. Noam’s one-woman show “Coexistence, My Ass!” was developed at Harvard and received a four-star review at the 2023 Edinburgh Fringe Festival and was just honored at Sundance as the Winner of the World Cinema Documentary Special Jury Award for Freedom of Expression.

As President Donald Trump ramps up his authoritarian takeover, crackdown on civil liberties, and mass deportations, American Jews rallied outside of ICE headquarters to denounce the abduction of Mahmoud Khalil under the guise of fighting antisemitism. Rabbis, community leaders, and advocates for immigrant justice spoke out against the targeting of Khalil — and others who have been abducted by ICE in recent weeks — as an authoritarian test case to see how far Trump’s regime can extend its powers to curtail freedom of speech.
