Episode 3 – In this episode, Chris Duffy interviews Dr. Alexander Heazell of the University of Manchester in the United Kingdom.  Dr. Heazell is a stillbirth father himself and has dedicated his career to understanding stillbirth and furthering stillbirth prevention efforts.

Dr. Heazell is Professor and Senior Clinical Lecturer in Obstetrics and Clinical Director of the Tommy’s Stillbirth Research Centre, University of Manchester, UK.  He is also the founder and Director of the Rainbow Clinic – an obstetrical practice in two UK locations that specifically sees patients in a pregnancy following a previous loss.

Since completing his PhD in 2008 on the role of placental dysfunction in preeclampsia, his research has focused on stillbirth; his research portfolio includes a profile of basic science, clinical and qualitative research studies to give a better understanding leading to prevention of stillbirth and improving care for parents after stillbirth. He has received over £1.8M of grant income and has published over 110 research papers and received national and international awards for his work on stillbirth and placental dysfunction, and for improving care. He is leading the evaluation of the Saving Babies’ Lives Care Bundle in collaboration with NHS England. He led the recent Stillbirth Priority Setting Partnership and was one of the team for the 2016 Lancet Ending Preventable Stillbirth Series. He is currently the Chair of the International Stillbirth Alliance and a member of the Star Legacy Foundation Medical Advisory Board. Dr. Heazell was the 2016 recipient of the Star Legacy Foundation Star Research Award.

Jason H. Collins, MD, MSCR

Chris Duffy interviews our guest, Dr. Jason Collins, the founder of the Pregnancy Institute located in New Roads, LA.  Dr. Collins’  career and passion has focused on stillbirth and umbilical cord pathology.  Now retired from his obstetric practice, Dr. Collins continues his research into these tragic losses and is generous with his time to talk to health professionals and newly bereaved parents.   His book Silent Risk is written for clinicians and parents impacted by stillbirth due to umbilical cord pathology.  Dr. Collins and his wife, Dr. Candace Collins (ophthalmology) reside in Baton Rouge, LA.
