Beyond the Words

I went into this episode thinking I knew what to expect... …Jesus rides in in triumph …maybe we glimpse the Last Supper.

But I wasn’t ready for what ACTUALLY happened.

You see, unlike previous seasons, Season 5 is a rapid sprint through the final chapters of the gospels. Scene after scene, we’re dropped into these key biblical moments. Jesus is quoting large passages of scripture… And if we’re not careful, we’ll walk away without any clue about what it all means.

So, in this episode of The Chosen Explained, I’m going to take you through the key moments in episode 1 that set the tone for the rest of the Season. We’ll look at the characters, the scriptures, and the one devastating moment that ties it all together!

Recently, I traveled across Europe to visit the places where many of Jesus’ disciples are said to have died.

Tradition tells us that after Jesus’ resurrection, Jesus’ disciples literally fulfilled his command to take the gospel to the ends of the earth. They traveled to countries like England, France, and even India and almost all of them died very gruesome deaths.

But in the process, they also encountered amazing miracles and laid the groundwork for people like me and you to hear about Jesus!

So in this video, I’m going to take you on a journey to discover not only where the disciples ended up but how they got there and why they died! *

Have you ever wondered WHY Pontius Pilate decides to execute Jesus? We know that The Chosen is headed towards this moment but what doesn’t make sense is that, at least according to all of the gospels, Pilate doesn’t want to do it.

Just outside of Jerusalem, there is a field called the Field of Blood! And how it got this name is rather interesting. According to one part of the Bible, this field is called Akeldama, the field of blood because Judas bought this land with the money he got for betraying Jesus..and then died in it and HOW he died is really awful…

The resurrection is even more amazing than we think.

As you dig deeper into the accounts of the resurrection, you find that they’re filled with strange and confusing details like how Jesus’ body is given to his enemies, or how the key witnesses to the event, don’t even tell anyone.

These are things that you would never include in an account like this…unless they were true. And, ultimately, that’s the whole point.

In the eyes of the gospel writers, the account of the resurrection is the most important moment in all of scripture. Every detail matters. And here’s why this is so important for us: because without it Christianity MAKES NO SENSE.
