  • Digital transformation of AECO industries
Today’s interview Erika Pärn sat down with Dr. Ivanka Iordanova, an accredited architect and Professor Construction Engineering Department of École de Technologie Supérieure in Montreal Canada. She is an experienced academic contributing to research related to digital media and building performance, to BIM and know-how modeling. Her research program focusses on construction industrialisation and automation, based on the digital transformation of the industry. If that wasn’t enough to keep her busy she is also a member of the Board of Directors of CanBIM – Canadian professional body.

  • Converging Psychology with Technology
In today’s episode we dive deeper into the topic of psychology and technology. I’m really excited to bring this interview with a fellow researcher whom I have had the pleasure to collaborate with. We looked into the future of work and how to incorporate machine vision with the working from home set up to measure psychological impact of the home work environment. But a beacon of insight was always present on the psychological impact of such technology on workers. What do people intuitively want from technology. To find out more on this I sat down to discuss the future of technology that pays attention to human psychology with Dr.Denise Wilkins. Denise is a social scientist working in the Future of Work group at Microsoft Research Cambridge. Her research takes a mixed-methods, human-centred approach. Day-to-day, she works alongside machine learning researchers, software engineers, designers and other social scientists. More broadly, Denise’s research examines how technology can help groups collaborate for positive change.

  • Business Model Innovation and the Productivity paradox
Over the last decade, as huge advances have been made in digitalisation, productivity growth has slowed in all the major economies. Known as the productivity paradox. Research suggests, a lack of business model innovation is the main culprit, and Dr. Chander Velu is one such academic looking to uncover the connection. In todays episode I speak with Chander Velu a Senior Lecturer in the Cambridge University Engineering Department and a Fellow at Selwyn College, Cambridge. Chander has an interest in innovation and technology management with a specific focus on exploring the consequences of business model innovation and implications for productivity, strategic decision making, leadership and management information.

  • Business Ecosystems in Construction
Todays episode we discuss how competitors and rivals can cooperate to in an ecosystem and how competition has moved from firm to firm into ecosystem vs. ecosystem. I sat down to discuss the ecosystems (of both knowledge and business) in AEC industries with Dr.Gulnaz Aksenova. Gulnaz a lecturer in Building Information Modelling and Management at the Bartlett School of Construction and Project Management enlightens us on how these concepts are shaping competitive landscape in construction. She is well positioned to speak about these topics as her research interests cover topics such as: industry platforms and ecosystem governance, business model innovation.

  • Computational and generative design
Today's episode is with Bill Allen the CEO, and President of EvolveLAB, Disrupt Repeat, and On Point Scans. He has over 15 years of experience managing technology for buildings in the AEC industry for cutting edge firms. Bill Allen has been a keynote speaker as well as featured speaker at multiple events, and has the most watched Autodesk University talk ever "The Future of BIM is NOT BIM, And It's Coming Faster Than You Think". Bill has also co-founded the non-profit - The Bare Roots Foundation, an organization that believes each human being deserves the rights to basic human needs including shelter, food, and clean drinking water.

  • Nature and human delight in architecture
In this episode we dive deeper into the field of architecture. I sat down to discuss the state of architecture with Laurie Chetwood who is an innovative artist and designer with colourful ideas and a radical vision for architecture. He believes in questioning convention, taking risks, and embracing creative adventure one that combines sustainability and human well being. He believes that by unleashing the unexpected and pushing what’s possible, true advances can be made. We discuss whether beauty really is in the eye of the beholder when it comes to architecture. He reminds us that now is the time for creative risk taking in architecture that time is ripe for embracing human responsiveness and well being in spaces.

  • Digital Twin Buildings
In todays episode Dr. Erika Pärn has the pleasure of interviewing Christian Frey, a Senior Manager Innovation and Patent Coordination, Siemens, Smart Infrastructure. Christian has a strategic vision at Siemens, Smart Infrastructure Headquarters which is tied to the digital twinning of buildings. Chrisitan reminds us that a the Building Twin application allows for a connected, digital representation of a physical building. It also brings together dynamic and static data from multiple sources in a 3D model and enables informed and effective decisions to be made.

  • Construction 4.0 : Professional Bodies and Industry Processes
In today’s episode I have the pleasure to speak with the lead author of the recently published book Construction 4.0 Prof. Anil Sawhney. We discuss the topic of construction 4.0 and its impact on industry and professional bodies in the built environment. Anil is presently the Director of the Infrastructure Sector for the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS). He reminds us in todays discussion to keep the focus and balance right between technology and changes of processes within the industry.
