  • From BIM to Digital Twin
Prof. Sacks’ research focuses on the synergies of Building Information Modelling (BIM) and Lean Construction. Recent work at the Seskin Virtual Construction Lab at the Technion, which he leads, has included development of BIM-enabled lean production control systems; semantic enrichment of BIM models using machine learning and rule-processing, with application to BIM interoperability, model acquisition from point-cloud data, and code-compliance checking; BIM systems for earthquake search, rescue and recovery; and design for safety.
He is the lead author of the "BIM Handbook", currently in its 3rd edition, and of a new book on Lean and BIM implementation in construction, "Building Lean, Building BIM: Changing Construction the Tidhar Way". He has received numerous awards for research and teaching, including the Thomas Fitch Rowland prize of the American Society for Civil Engineering’s Construction Institute, in 2016.
Prof. Sacks is the author or co-author of 82 papers in international peer-reviewed academic journals, 103 peer-reviewed conference papers, and numerous book chapters and research reports.

  • Future of Construction Safety Management: Agent Based Simulations and Computer Vision
We delve into the topic of AI with Associate Professor Yang Miang Goh, more specifically supervised learning, BIM based simulation and computer vision in construction safety management.
His research career has helped shape much of the research into construction safety management with machine learning modelling techniques and approaches to help better simulate construction hazards.

  • Digital Platforms in Construction
Jaan Saar has managed processes and IT in the construction industry for over 15 years. He joined the public sector in 2018 with the goal to digitally transform construction in Estonia.
He is currently working on developing the "e-construction platform" which will enable collaborative data sharing and integration of services related to the planning, design, construction and maintenance of built assets.

  • Construction 4.0 - Blockchain in Construction
Dr. Abel Maciel is an architect and Senior Research Associate at UCL. He tutors at UCL’s Bartlett Faculty of the Built Environment and the Faculty of Engineering.
He is the founding director of Design Computation Ltd, a specialist consultancy delivering Building Information Modelling, Programmatic Design, and Smart Contracts. Design Computation collaborates closely with Autodesk as a Select Service Provider.
Abel is a founding director and academic lead of the Construction Blockchain Consortium (CBC) and the initiator of the Design Computation Wiki, an open knowledge platform for computational design.

  • Construction 4.0 - Changing Mindsets on Data and Cyber Physical Systems
Dr Gurdur Broo cares about the future of the world and nature. She is a computer scientist with a Ph.D. in mechatronics, which can give you an idea about how much she loves to talk about the future and emerging technologies.
She is a data person, always finds a way to talk about how important it is to know your data, use it to make decisions and at some point expect her to talk about art, visualizations and visual analytics. Dr Gurdur Broo is a person who does not hesitate to talk about inequalities and point out her ethical concerns. She dreams of a better world and actively works on improving inequalities regardless of their nature. She is an analytical thinker with a passion for design thinking, a researcher with a future perspective, an engineer who likes problems more than solutions and a teacher who likes to play during lectures. She is a good reader, sailor, divemaster, photographer and drone pilot.
