Benjamin Franklin+Who was he?

But did you know he was also an investor in precious metals?

In fact, when Benjamin Franklin died he bequeathed 1,000 pounds sterling silver (worth about $4000 at the time) each to both his birth city of Boston and Philadelphia, the city he’d called home since he was 17 years old—with stipulations.

For the first 100 years, the silver was to be used to give small loans to skilled workers, enabling them to start businesses of their own.

For the second hundred years, the cities could use the funds for public works projects. At the end of 200 years, in 1990 the funds were released for each city to use as they saw fit.

Franklin was fascinated by the concepts of compounding interest and financial gains made over time. What had begun as a relatively small amount of silver bullion invested wisely grew to nearly $7 million dollars. Enough to fund the construction of two large buildings.

Chaga Mushrooms have effects against cancer

CME in research from Showa University, Tokyo, reduced lung cancer tumors by 60 per cent in mice, and in metastatic disease the number of nodules reduced by 25 per cent (1). In particular, chaga mushroom extract restricted blood supply formation. The middle aged mice also experienced decreased body weight with the chaga infusions.

In a 2021 study (2) with breast cancer both in vitro and in vivo, Chaga Mushroom extract was shown to cause autophagy by activating and promoting the AMPK pathway while inhibiting the mTOR pathway. The in vivo studies showed that CME used every other day, restricted breast cancer tumor growth in mice.  Chaga mushrooms are already used in cancer treatment in South East Asia as a complementary therapy to boost the immune system during chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

The active anti-cancer ingredients appeared to be inotodiol and trametenolic acid both of which exhibited cytotoxic effects on a wide variety of cancer cells without interfering with the cytotoxic effects of any drug.

A 2015 Korean study (3) showed that another active compound in chaga could inhibit Colorectal cancer. Ergosterol peroxide inhibited cell proliferation and also suppressed  tumor formation by causing apoptosis, and inhibiting nuclear levels of β-catenin.

There is also 2008 research from Korea (Myung Ja-Youn et al.) in the Journal of Gastroenterology with liver cancer; and in 2009 by the same team in the Journal of Ethnopharmacology with melanoma.

I am a ten-year Cancer Thriver. I overcame Hodgkins Lymphoma which included enduring chemotherapy and radiation treatments and the ups-and-downs of cancer.

While going through my cancer journey, I noticed that there was a gap. Something was missing. I had a great oncologist and healthcare team. However, once I left the doctor’s office, there was not a whole lot of emotional support. Although I had the support of my family, they had a hard time understanding what I was feeling.

I want to help others take care of the emotional side of cancer because most cancer patients don’t have anyone that they can confide in or anyone who knows what it is like to have cancer.

I became a cancer doula because I do not want anyone to feel like they are alone and misunderstood. I want to use my experience and ongoing learning to help others conquer the challenges of cancer, it's diagnosis, its treatment, and the “secret” side effects that are not usually discussed.
