This week we chat Luke 3: John The Baptist & @moderntimesbeer Black House Nitro!

Luke 3 finds John the baptist calling people out for their actions, including King Herod which ended up with John in jail.

John’s primary message was that being baptized or your ancestry alone isn’t enough to save anyone. We must do good work and help others in need!

John told everyone that he baptized with water but Jesus baptizes with the fire of the Holy Spirit and Jesus himself was baptized as an example for us to follow.

@moderntimesbeer also gives us an example of a great Nitro beer! Rich with coffee, coconut, and cocoa flavors, it’s a smooth pour with a great carbonation.

Our hearts go out to all those affected by the fire at @jimbeamdistillery this past week and we’re glad no one was injured.

Luke 2 & Kentucky Spirit Single Barrel signed by THE JIMMY RUSSELL!

Luke 2 finds Jesus staying behind in Jerusalem and Mary and Joseph didn’t know He was missing for an entire DAY!! They had to go alllll the way back to Jerusalem and it took them another 3 DAYS!

They’re literally raising the Messiah! Don’t you think you’d keep a better eye on him? They’re pretty much the opposite of helicopter parents.

Speaking of parents, I was honored to meet Jimmy Russell, Wild Turkey’s Master Distiller, the Grandfather of Bourbon, and he signed the bottle of Kentucky Spirit Single Barrel!

This is an amazingly smooth bourbon with a rich caramel color and mouth feel that finishes with sweet vanilla and caramel flavors.

Luke 1 & @hereticbrewing Chocolate Hazelnut Porter

This week we go about things a little differently just as Luke starts his book a little differently by doing some fact-checking and summarizing all the accounts of Jesus and doing a thorough investigation to reassure us of the truth we’ve all been taught.

We also review a @hereticbrewing Chocolate Hazelnut Porter. Dictionary.com defines heretic as “a person practicing religious heresy” or “a person holding an opinion at odds with what is generally accepted.”

Using that last definition, one could say that Jesus himself was the ULTIMATE heretic... one at odds with what is generally accepted.

Mark 16 & Maker’s Mark Private Select

Happy Father’s Day!

Mark 16 is where Jesus comes back to life and appeared to Mary Magdalene, two others, and then the other disciples. At first they didn’t believe it was Him! He went about announcing his resurrection in a subtle way, telling one person, then 2, then the rest of the disciples.

He could’ve just shown up and said “TA-DA!!! IM BAAA-AA-AACK!!” But He chose to almost test their faith one last time. Why do you think he did that? I can’t wait to ask Him one day!

Mark 15 & Definitive Brewing Company Vanilla Superdome DIPA

Last week, I took a birthday trip to Maine for a jiu jitsu Globetrotters camp, made tons of new friends, trained hours and hours of jiu jitsu, and even toured a brewery or 4.

Mark 15 leads us through the mocking, false accusations, beatings, and up to the crucifixion of Jesus.

A Roman officer who witnessed the mocking and insults that were thrown at Jesus while he hung on the cross had a definitive, life-changing moment when Jesus dismissed his spirit and he said, “Truly this man WAS the Son of God!”

That moment was life-changing. It was a definitive moment in that officer’s life.

I also had a definitive moment when I tried Definitive Brewing Company’s Vanilla Superdome! I had a small sample of this tasty IPA and I knew IMMEDIATELY that I had to have more of this brew!! So I bought 2 four packs!

This DIPA is brewed with lactose, vanilla sugar, and vanilla beans. It’s a fantastic brew with an amazing finish and you should definitely get your hands on this!

Mark 14 & Blade & Bow Solera Aged Bourbon

5 keys and 5 predictions.

There were 5 times Jesus foretells the future in Mark 14: he knew he would die when he was anointed, where to have Passover dinner, who would betray him, and that Peter would deny him three times, and that He will return at the right hand of God.

Each of these examples gets more intense as the chapter goes on.

One passage that stands out to me is at his capture, Jesus said, “Am I some dangerous robber, that you come like this, armed to the teeth to capture me? Why didn’t you arrest me in the temple? I was there teaching every day! But these things are happening to fulfill the prophecies about me.” Great question huh? 😏

The Blade and Bow brand is a tribute to the five keys that once hung on the door of the Stitzel-Weller Distillery,” which stands for the five steps of making bourbon - grains, yeast, fermentation, distillation, and aging.

According to Diageo, some of the last bourbon produced at Stitzel-Weller is used in their solera system. They state that “Older bourbon from Stitzel-Weller is mingled with other younger whiskies. No barrel is ever fully drained, ensuring the oldest bourbon is always present.”

The KEY takeaway from Mark 14: Jesus foretold the future 5 times, but the most important foretelling of all, that He WILL return in the clouds of heaven and He’ll be sitting at God’s right hand.

And that is something I’ll gladly drink to! Cheers!

Mark 13 & @andersonvalleybrewing Old Fashioned.

Mark 13 is kind of a heavy/dark chapter, talking about the end of times: wars, earthquakes in diverse places, and famine. Many false teachers, the sun and moon will be dimmed, stars will fall, heavens will convulse.

Days of such horror not a soul would survive, but for the sake of His chosen, He will limit those days.

Sounds pretty dark, right? Sometimes, the struggles or difficulties in life are necessary to prepare us for what we’ve asked for or to help us appreciate the blessings we have.

If you’ve had struggles in your life, if you’re struggling right now, remember, it’s always darkest just before the dawn.

This week, @biblebourbonsbrews hit the road to the beautiful little town of Graham, KY to meet some incredible folks and tour their fantastic facility.

@thebarddistillery owners and co-founders Kim & Tom Bard welcomed us with open arms and hearts and shared their dream of what’s sure to be the next big distillery. (You heard it here first!)

We were blessed enough to sample some of their amazing bourbon and even at 113 proof, it was incredibly smooth with a silky mouth-feel, and bold caramel and smoky vanilla flavors. Absolutely delicious!

Bourbon runs in their blood and these two are so passionate about what they do and their vision for their distillery and the town Tom grew up in, that it tied in perfectly with this week’s message that Anything Is Possible.
