Bible Mysteries

In Episode 277 of the Bible Mysteries Podcast, Scott Mitchell and John Potts continue their study of the Gog and Magog prophecy by taking a closer look at Ezekiel 38 and 39—focusing on the identity of Gog, the land of Magog, and the timing of these events.

With increasing speculation about modern conflicts being tied to this prophecy, this episode moves beyond assumption and carefully examines what the Bible actually says. Building on Part 1, the discussion emphasizes the importance of letting Scripture define its own terms rather than forcing current events into prophetic passages.

A key focus in this episode is the distinction between two separate battles involving Gog. By comparing Ezekiel with Revelation 20, Scott explains why these cannot be the same event and how one appears to occur prior to the tribulation while the other takes place at the end of the millennial reign of Christ.

The episode also explores the meaning of key names such as Meshech, Tubal, and Magog, addressing common claims that attempt to directly link these to modern nations like Russia. Instead, the teaching highlights their historical and geographical context, pointing toward regions associated with Asia Minor while cautioning against oversimplified conclusions.

Another significant element discussed is the supernatural nature of God’s intervention. This is not a conventional war—God Himself defeats the invading forces, demonstrating His power in a way that causes the nations to recognize Him. Yet, unlike the final battle described in Revelation, a remnant of the invading force remains, raising important questions about the role this event plays in what follows.

The phrase “those who dwell carelessly” is also examined, offering insight into a condition of false security that characterizes the last days. This description invites believers to consider not just geography, but spiritual readiness.

This episode continues to build a careful, Scripture-based understanding of Gog and Magog—reminding us that prophecy is not meant to be driven by speculation, but by the Word of God.

In this Easter message, we examine a question many have asked but few fully understand—why did Jesus have to die?Scripture reveals that the answer reaches back before creation itself. God established a plan of redemption before the foundation of the world, knowing that sin would enter through rebellion and that salvation would require a perfect sacrifice.

This lesson traces the biblical record from eternity past through the fall of Satan, the creation of man, and the entrance of sin into the world. It reveals the distinction between the earth given to man and the world system influenced by Satan, and how a legal challenge led to the need for redemption through Jesus Christ.

We also see that the mystery of the cross was hidden from the powers of this world. Had they known what Christ’s death would accomplish, they would not have crucified Him. Yet through His death, burial, and resurrection, God fulfilled a plan that had been established before time began.

This message brings clarity to the purpose of the cross and calls each listener to consider their own response to the gospel.

If you have never trusted Jesus Christ as your Savior, today is the day to believe. He died for your sins, was buried, and rose again the third day so that you might have eternal life.

“Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” (Romans 10:13)

In Episode 276 of the Bible Mysteries Podcast, Scott Mitchell and John Potts begin a three-part series examining one of the most discussed and often misunderstood prophecies in Scripture—the Battle of Gog found in Ezekiel 38 and 39.

With global tensions rising and constant speculation circulating online, many are quick to claim that current events are the direct fulfillment of biblical prophecy. In this opening episode, Scott and John take a step back and address a critical issue first: end times deception.

The Bible warns that in the latter days, deception will increase—even among believers. This episode explores how misinformation, social media, and even artificial intelligence are contributing to confusion, making it more difficult to discern truth from error.

Scott emphasizes the importance of grounding our understanding of prophecy in Scripture rather than headlines or popular opinion. Through a careful examination of key passages, including 1 Timothy 4 and 2 Timothy 4, this episode highlights the danger of departing from sound doctrine and the rise of teachings that appeal to emotion rather than truth.

The discussion also addresses two common errors seen in the church today—those who avoid doctrine entirely and those who add to Scripture by elevating extra-biblical writings. Both approaches lead away from a proper understanding of God’s Word.

A central focus of this episode is the frequent misapplication of Psalm 83 as a future prophetic war. By comparing Scripture with Scripture, Scott shows how Psalm 83 aligns with the historical events recorded in 2 Chronicles 20, where God Himself fought the battle for Israel when His people sought Him first.

This episode sets the foundation for the rest of the series by establishing a key principle: we must interpret current events through the lens of Scripture—not force Scripture to fit current events.

As deception increases, believers are called to hold fast to the Word of God, rightly divide the truth, and remain anchored in sound doctrine.

What happens the moment a believer dies? Are Christians asleep in the grave awaiting the resurrection, or are they immediately with the Lord?

In this message, Scripture is compared with Scripture to answer a question many believers wrestle with: Where are the saints between death and the rapture? Looking at passages from Psalms, the Gospels, Paul’s epistles, and Revelation, this study clarifies the biblical teaching on the state of the dead in Christ.

The Bible reveals that death for the believer is not a period of unconscious waiting, but a transition into the presence of the Lord. From Abraham’s bosom to the third heaven, and ultimately to the promise of a glorified body, this message lays out the full picture of what awaits those who are in Christ.

This is a study grounded in the hope, comfort, and certainty given in God’s Word—that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.

In Episode 275 of the Bible Mysteries Podcast, we examine prayer and consider insights from Hebrew understanding while testing every idea against the authority of Scripture. In this final part of the Comprehending Four Dimensions series—following wisdom, knowledge, and worship—we turn to prayer and what the Bible reveals.

Prayer is one of the most familiar practices in the Christian life—and yet one of the most misunderstood. In this final installment of the Comprehending Four Dimensions series, we turn to Scripture to define what prayer truly is and how it functions in the life of a believer.

Building on the previous “dimensions” of wisdom, knowledge, and worship, this episode focuses on prayer as an essential part of God’s design for relationship with Him. But rather than relying on personal interpretation or new ideas, we compare every concept with the full counsel of Scripture.

The Bible does not leave prayer undefined. It gives clear instruction: we are told to ask, seek, and knock. We are told to make our requests known to God. We are told to pray according to His will as revealed in His Word.

At the same time, this episode addresses an important question: Is prayer simply accepting whatever God has already determined? While God’s will is perfect and unchanging, Scripture shows that prayer is not passive resignation—it is active, intentional communication with God.

Throughout this discussion, we emphasize the importance of testing all teaching—whether based on language study, personal insight, or tradition—against the authority of Scripture. No single perspective can stand apart from the clear pattern given in the Word of God.

Prayer is not redefined by modern thought. It is revealed by God.

Prayer is clearly revealed in Scripture—and it is there that we must remain. What Is Biblical Prayer? Understanding Prayer According to Scripture

In this message from Unlock the Bible Now, we address the growing criticism surrounding dispensational teaching and return to Scripture to examine what God actually says. Are dispensations a man-made system—or are they revealed in the Word of God?

This lesson walks through key passages to show that the concept of dispensations did not originate with modern theologians, but with the Apostle Paul. We look at how God’s dealings with mankind have changed over time, and why understanding those changes is essential to rightly dividing the Word of truth.

You’ll see the clear distinction between Israel’s kingdom program and the dispensation of grace given to Paul, along with the mystery that was hidden in previous ages but now revealed—that salvation is available to all men, Jew and Gentile alike, through faith in Jesus Christ.

We also address common misunderstandings behind dispensational attacks, including confusion about the law, the covenants, and the role of modern Israel. Scripture makes it clear: salvation today is not through the law, rituals, or religious systems, but by grace through faith.

This message is a call to return to the simplicity of the gospel and to stand firmly on what the Word of God declares.

Don’t be distracted by arguments and traditions. Stay grounded in the Word, and trust what God has revealed.

What does the Bible mean when it speaks of a “far country”?

At first glance, the phrase simply seems to describe a distant land. But when this expression appears throughout Scripture, it begins to reveal something far deeper. In this episode, Scott and John trace the phrase “far country” through the Bible—from the Old Testament prophets to the parables of Jesus—to uncover a powerful prophetic pattern.

Beginning in Isaiah 13, the prophecy concerning the burden of Babylon describes an army gathered by the Lord that comes “from a far country, from the end of heaven.” While this passage includes the historical destruction of Babylon by the Medes and Persians, it also points forward to something far greater: the future judgment of Mystery Babylon and the return of the Lord in the Day of the Lord.

As the study unfolds, several key passages reveal how this phrase connects to God’s prophetic timeline. The first appearance in Joshua 9 shows how the idea of a far country represents great distance and long travel. Solomon later speaks of strangers who come from a far country seeking the God of Israel, hinting at the inclusion of the Gentiles.

Then the phrase appears again in the parables of Jesus, where a nobleman or householder travels to a far country and later returns to settle accounts with his servants. These parables reveal a prophetic picture of Christ’s rejection, His departure to heaven, and His future return to judge the world and establish His kingdom.

Finally, the study connects these passages with Revelation 19, where heaven opens and Christ returns with the armies of heaven to defeat the forces of the beast. The sanctified ones and mighty ones described in Isaiah may point to the heavenly host—both angelic armies and the saints returning with the Lord.

Throughout Scripture, the phrase “far country” consistently points toward heaven itself—the place Christ ascended after His rejection and the place from which He will return.

For believers, this is more than a study of words. It is a reminder of a promise:

Christ has gone to a far country—but He is coming back.

In times of global uncertainty, rising tensions, and economic instability, many people are searching for freedom and peace. But the freedom the world offers is temporary and fragile. Governments change, economies collapse, and circumstances can shift overnight.

Scripture reveals a deeper truth.

True freedom is not found in political systems, financial stability, or personal independence. According to the Word of God, true freedom is found only in Christ.

In this Bible study message, Scott examines what the Scriptures teach about spiritual liberty and why believers can possess genuine peace even in the midst of chaos. Drawing from passages such as Acts 16, John 8, Romans 8, and Philippians 4, this message explains how believers are made free from the power of sin and death through Jesus Christ.

Paul and Silas demonstrated this reality when they prayed and sang praises to God after being beaten and imprisoned. Though their bodies were confined, their freedom in Christ remained untouched.

The same is true for believers today.

When we understand the liberty we have through the gospel, we can face troubling times without fear. Our freedom does not depend on the stability of this world but on the finished work of Jesus Christ.

This message reminds us that even when persecution, hardship, or uncertainty arise, the peace of God can guard our hearts and minds through Christ.

This teaching was originally recorded in December 2023 and remains just as relevant today as the world continues to wrestle with turmoil and uncertainty.

In this second part of our duocast with Pete Ohlinger from the Days of Noah Podcast, we continue examining one of the most serious and debated doctrines in Scripture: the nature of hell.

Does the Bible teach eternal conscious punishment, or do the lost eventually cease to exist through annihilation?

Building on the foundation laid in Part 1, Scott and Pete dig deeper into key passages that describe the final judgment, including the Lake of Fire, the Second Death, and the Great White Throne judgment. Along the way, they discuss how Scripture interprets Scripture, why context matters when studying words like eternal and everlasting, and how Jesus Himself warned repeatedly about the reality of hell.

The conversation also addresses common arguments used to support annihilationism and compares them with passages that describe unending punishment. Special attention is given to the words of Jesus in Mark 9, the account of the rich man and Lazarus, and the prophetic descriptions found in Revelation.

This discussion is not about winning a theological debate—it is about faithfully examining what the Bible says and allowing Scripture to shape our understanding of God’s justice, mercy, and the eternal consequences of rejecting the gospel.

Join us as we conclude this important conversation and consider what the Word of God reveals about eternity.
