1.Ephesians 1:4-14

Ephesians 1:4-5 - even as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before Him. In love He predestined us for adoption to Himself as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of His will,

Ephesians 1:9 - making known to us the mystery of His will, according to His purpose, which He set forth in Christ

Ephesians 1:11 - In Him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will,  

“It is though Paul is unpacking for us the bundle of blessings which God has given us in His Son:

Forgiveness, Redemption, Acceptance. As he unpacks he makes it clear that he is speaking of a plan God has had before we were born.” 

Pastor is God just haphazardly working our salvation out?

(Can you believe in the sovereignty of God and logically believe that we choose salvation on our own?)

Election seems to bother some people. 

Matthew 22:14 - For many are called, but few are chosen.”

Matthew 11:25-28 - At that time Jesus declared, “I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have hidden these things from the wise and understanding and revealed them to little children; 26 yes, Father, for such was your gracious will. 27 All things have been handed over to Me by my Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal Him. 28 Come to Me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

“These words are unfathomable. They take us into the deep things of God, speaking as they do of the inter-personal relationships of the Father and the Son. They point to mysteries beyond our understanding. But they also speak plainly about how men come to know God in Christ. It is by the choice of the Father and the Son.”
