The Bible frequently describes Christians as those who are “in Christ” or “in Christ Jesus”.

1 Corinthians 1:2 - To the church of God that is in Corinth, to those sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints together with all those who in every place call upon the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, both their Lord and ours:

The Bible says that we are “called to be saints”. When I here the word saint I think about the Catholic church. What does it mean in our Christian life that we are “called to be saints”?

Christians have a new sense of God’s care.

Privilege - “In Matthew 6:8 Jesus says, “your Father knows what you need before you ask Him.”

Responsibility - “Lay aside all our anxieties.” 

1 Peter 5:6-7- Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.

2 Peter 1:4 - by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire. - “God has done what no man can do … in adopting us He has also given us the nature of the Father.”

“A new status, not subject to degrees, fully known in glory when we bear the image of Christ.”

Romans 8:16-19 - For the creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the sons of God.

1 John 3:2 - Beloved, we are God's children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when He appears we shall be like Him, because we shall see Him as He is.

The recognition of the pardon of God.

What is involved in repentance?  (will differ from person to person).

1. Sense of Shame.

Romans 6:21 But what fruit were you getting at that time from the things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death.

“Pride is #1 on God's hate parade.* and

Sin that used to slink down the back alley—now struts down Main Street!” - Adrian Rogers.

*Proverbs 6:16-17 These six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto Him:

17 A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,

Nowadays, how often do we see someone with a sense of shame?

Do you say, "I will do anything for God, but I won't do that?

A rejection of ungodliness and a return to the ways of the covenant - 

Jeremiah 26:3 - It may be they will listen, and every one turn from his evil way, that I may relent of the disaster that I intend to do to them because of their evil deeds.

The chapter title is “True Repentance”, so there must also be false repentance, how prevalent do you think this is in Christianity today?  How important is it for local churches to recognize? What steps should be taken?
