What do most people mean by fellowship? Christian fellowship is not in koolaid & cookies. Our fellowship is not just in picnics or pot-luck dinners.
Some say fellowship is meeting around the table and talking to each other about everything under the sun, except the one thing that would give them true fellowship, the person of Jesus Christ.
Fellowship in the Gospel
Philippians 1:3-6 - I thank my God upon every remembrance of you, always in every prayer of mine making request for you all with joy, for your fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ;
Christian fellowship means sharing the same vision of getting the gospel to the world, and then investing personally and trusting the Holy Spirit's working to draw people unto the Father.
The apostle Paul loved to spread the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, and so should we.
There is nothing that compares to seeing someone come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.
Fellowship of the Spirit
Philippians 2:1-2 - Therefore if there is any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and mercy, fulfill my joy by being like-minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind.
The fellowship of the Spirit. Do you have somebody that you can meet with, pray with, and study the Word of God with? The Spirit of God will meld you together.
Many churches have those that “trusted, but then rusted”, or the “frozen chosen”. Don’t be rusted or frozen together, pray and study with other Christians and let the Holy Spirit meld you together.
Fellowship of Christ’s Sufferings
Philippians 3:10-11- that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death, if, by any means, I may attain to the resurrection from the dead.
Friend, do you know Him? Do you really know Him? Do you know the fellowship of His sufferings?
When we follow in the footsteps of Jesus, preach the Gospel, and walk in the Light we will see the same hostility from the world that Jesus endured.
The book of Philippians is about joy. Christians can find joy in our suffering, in any circumstance we find ourselves in.
Fellowship in suffering - Find someone that is hurting and hurt with them. Find someone with a burden and help them bear it.There is a sweet fellowship that exists between Christians who suffer together for the cause of Christ.
Fellowship of the Father
1 John 1:3 - that which we have seen and heard we declare to you, that you also may have fellowship with us; and truly our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ.
Our need for Fellowship with HIM
1 John 1:6-7 - If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.
We fall into two classes, those who are in fellowship with God, and therefore walk in light and love and those who are not in fellowship with God and therefore walk in darkness and hatred.
We become like what we surround ourselves with. Walk in the darkness of the world and you become darker. Walk in the light of God’s Word and you become more like Jesus.
Being a Lone Ranger Christian doesn’t work.
Believers are joined together into one body in Christ Jesus, and it is the function of one part of the body to minister to another member of the body. If one member of the body does not minister to another member, they both suffer.
The only place you can have real Christian fellowship is around God’s Holy Word.
It’s the Word of God that points us to the person of Jesus Christ and enables us to see Him in all His glory. It’s with your Bible open that you can have fellowship and a good time with other believers.
Our Lord is wonderful
