Elijah called for a showdown between God and Baal on Mount Carmel. God responded in a mighty way. He is the only God who deserves honor, worship, and obedience. This session will help kids think about things that may compete for the attention that God deserves (sports, school, gaming, friends). We will stress that God is the One we should obey and worship, not other things.

Joshua and the people stood outside the formidable city of Jericho. God spoke and told them an unusual battle plan. Joshua and the people chose to follow God’s instructions, and the city was conquered. This session will emphasize to kids that God expects obedience, even when that obedience goes against what we think we should do.

The people of Israel stood on the border of the promised land. They sent in spies to check out things. Ten spies said that the people in the land were too powerful and would destroy them. The people chose to rebel against Moses and God. Joshua and Caleb were the only people who chose to obey God. This session will lead kids to understand that people can choose to disobey God and that disobedience has consequences. They can choose to obey God even when others disobey.  

The disciples did not see the value of children coming to Jesus. But Jesus said to not hinder them. Every person is valuable to God and Jesus. Christians should see the value of each person, no matter who the person is.

Jesus showed unconditional love to each person He met. He even loved the unpopular person like a tax collector. Christians should have a Christlike love for everyone around them. That type of love only comes from God.

In the garden, Jesus prayed to follow God’s will for Him. For Jesus, that led to the cross. Christians today can pray for God’s will to be done in their lives and in the world around them. This session will provide opportunities for kids to learn about prayer. 

Kids: Jesus was tempted by Satan. Jesus used Scripture to resist the temptations that Satan brought. This session will help kids understand that God can help Christians resist temptations today through prayer and His Word. No one can be sinless as Jesus is, but Christians can strive to resist sin.

Preschool: Washing the disciples’ feet was a way that Jesus showed His love and a way to teach them, too. Jesus helped His friends because He loved them. Jesus also gave an example of how to help others. This session will help kids to know that people can follow Jesus’ example and help their families, friends, and others.

Emphasize that Joseph, a man who had a lot of power, chose to show love and care for his brothers and forgive them. This session will help kids think about the work of God in the life of Joseph and the work of God in their own families’ lives. We can lead kids to learn that God had a plan for families and to determine ways to show care and love to their families. We will be sensitive for children that have different family dynamics including broken families, adoptive, foster, single-parent, and stepfamilies.

Kids: Family members should be ready to ask for or give forgiveness when wrongs happen. Forgiving family members is a reflection of the forgiveness God gives. This session will help kids think about situations that may lead to asking for forgiveness within families.

Preschool: From the beginning, God planned for families. This session will lead kids to understand that God planned for parents to care for children and for all people to care for the world He made. We will be sensitive for children that have different family dynamics including broken families, adoptive, foster, single-parent, and stepfamilies.

Kids: All families have disagreements and conflicts. Abram took initiative to work out the quarrel with Lot. As the elder, he could have taken control of the situation and told Lot where to go. But he chose to work with Lot, allowing Lot to choose where to move. This session will guide kids to think about God's plan for families and about how family members can work out differences and live at peace together. We will be sensitive for children that have different family dynamics including broken families, adoptive, foster, single-parent, and stepfamilies.

Preschool: God made people, His most important creation. People are different from the other things that God made. People can make choices. This session will help kids think about ways they are wonderfully made and ways God made them able to think and do things.
