BIBLE STUDY PODCAST

Third John holds a unique place in the bible for a few reasons. First, it’s the shortest book of the Bible. Second, it’s a unique book in the New Testament because it is a personal letter that reflects ancient letters more than other books in the New Testament. John continues to focus on the intersection of truth and love, but now in the form of hospitality and ministry support. How do we apply John’s words today? Should we never accept help from an unbeliever, or does that application change today in a different time and culture? Our How to Read the Bible segment today is “Why Every Word in Scripture is Important.”

Last time, we went verse by verse through 2 John. So this time we are swinging the pendulum the other way and flying by the seat of our pants. We focus on what stood out to us from John’s letter and how to apply it to our lives. We get kind of emotional talking about God’s love for people and seeing them in the light of being worthy of love because they are made in God’s image. But that doesn’t mean we just way yes to everything. I can love someone and tell them “no” because that is what is best for them. John highlights the healthy tension between love and truth. Lastly, Kristy and Kelly join us for a conversation about reading the Bible with both your head and your heart; both logic and emotion.

We throw a curveball, but hopefully a helpful one. We are going verse by verse and show you how to make observations and ask questions about a text. We spend a lot less time than usual drawing conclusions and explaining the text because we want to show you how we do this. It’s a pretty unpolished episode. Grab a bible, read through 2 John yourself, and then join us as we learn from this New Testament letter.

What a great discussion. Join us as we continue to wrestle with ideas, topics, and thoughts brought up in Philemon. We talk about slavery, fellowship, and intimacy within the church, Paul’s heart for the gospel, and much more. What does it take to apply Scripture to our own lives today? We talk about all these things in today’s episode.

Paul pushes us to look at what the next steps of unity, love, and community look like in our own lives. Also, listen in to learn how interlinear bibles, Google, and some other resources will bring your word studies to life!
