  • Every man did that which was right in his own eyes; Part 4 Covetousness
Cyclopedia of Biblical Theological and Ecclesiastical Literature
    Covetousness
(בֶּצִע, be'tsa, rapine, lucre; πλεονεξία, a grasping temper), in a general sense, means all inordinate desire of worldly possessions, such as undue thirst for honors, gold, etc. In a more restricted sense, it is the desire of increasing one's substance by appropriating that of others. It is a disorder of the heart, and closely allied to selfishness. We here consider it under its more restricted aspect.
    1. Covetousness (πλεονεξία, φιλαργυρία) is a strong, sometimes irresistible desire of possessing or of increasing one's possessions.

  • Bible Breakdowns With Banabad: Fruits of the Spirit.
    Jeremiah 3:15
And I will give you pastors according to mine heart,.... Which is to be understood not of political rulers and governors, but ministers of the word; who are "pastors" or "shepherds" under Christ the great Shepherd, and are "gifts" of his to the churches, and "according to his heart"; or "conformable to his mind", as the Arabic version; whom he calls, qualifies, puts into the ministry, and sends forth; whom he holds in his right hand, and keeps as the apple of his eye; who do his will, as the Targum, and feed men according to his heart:
which shall feed you with knowledge and understanding; with things worthy to be known and understood; with the solid and substantial truths of the Gospel, and by faithfully administering the ordinances of it; and in all directing to Christ the bread of life: or, "shall rule you" (f) not in an arbitrary way, according to their own ills, but according to the laws of Christ: these words, with knowledge and understanding, may either intend the matter with which these pastors should feed the church; which is what tends to spiritual knowledge and understanding, and an increase thereof; and which is blessed of God to such a purpose, though they themselves cannot give it: or else the manner in which they should feed or rule; that is, wisely and "prudently", as the Arabic version renders it: they feed wisely and prudently when they rightly divide the word of truth, and give to every one their portion of meat in due season; and feed them in proportion to their age and capacity, give milk to babes, and meat to strong men: and they rule with wisdom and prudence when they govern according to the laws of Christ,

  • IN THOSE DAYS THERE WAS NO KING IN ISRAE: Part 3 mashahba
    Judges 20:1-48
The Israelites' abhorrence of the crime committed at Gibeah, and their resolution to punish the criminals, were right; but they formed their resolves with too much haste and self-confidence. The eternal ruin of souls will be worse, and more fearful, than these desolations of a tribe.

Once a Californian Boom Town, Now a Sunken City at the Bottom of a Lake
At one time Kennett, Ca, had 40 saloons, dozens of trade stores, a hotel, hospital, a schoolhouse– it even had an opera house– that is, before it was sitting at the bottom of the huge man-made Lake Shasta. Kennett is now completely invisible, buried as deep as 400 feet below the water’s surface. There is no record of any public hearings to ask Kennett residents their opinion. Kennett might not be the lost city of Atlantis,

  • IN THOSE DAYS THERE WAS NO KING IN ISRAEL
    Judges 17:6
In those days there was no king in Israel,.... That is, no supreme magistrate, judge, or ruler, Joshua being dead and Caleb also, and the elders contemporary with them; for what the Samaritan Chronicle says (l) is without foundation, that Joshua a little before his death cast a lot in the presence of the congregation, to know who should govern after him, and the lot came to one Abel, of the tribe of Judah:
but every man did that which was right in his own eyes; which accounts for the idolatry of Micah, there being no supreme magistrate to take cognizance of his sin, and restrain him from it, or punish him for it according to the law of God.

  • BUT EVERY MAN DID THAT WHICH WAS RIGHT IN HIS OWN EYES.
    Poor Man’s Commentary Robert Hawker
    Judges 17:6
In those days there was no king in Israel, but every man did that which was right in his own eyes.
The sacred historian very properly accounts for the whole of this sad defection in Israel; in those days there was no king neither order, nor government. No ministry of God to tell men of their transgressions: no magistrate to punish them. Reader! learn to set a proper estimate upon those two great blessings of the Lord, a standing ministry, to instruct men in the truths of salvation: and a well ordered government to protect those ministers. Remember: rulers are not a terror to good works, but the evil. Rom_13:3.

  • Let's stay together: FORNICATION! Part 4 Priest Tazapa
    Matthew 5:32
(BBE)  But I say to you that everyone who puts away his wife for any other cause but the loss of her virtue, makes her false to her husband; and whoever takes her as his wife after she is put away, is no true husband to her.
(BSB 1.2)  But I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, brings adultery upon her. And he who marries a divorced woman commits adultery.
(ECB)  But I word to you, Whoever releases his woman, except for the word of whoredom, causes her to adulterize: and whoever marries her who is released, adulterizes.
(ERRB)  But I say word unto you, That whosoever shall put away release his wife woman , saving except for the cause word of fornication whoredom , causeth her to commit adultery adulterize : and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced released , committeth adultery adulterizeth .
