Three days into freedom, they run out of water. At Marah, the water is bitter. They're ready to revolt. God turns the water sweet, but if they'd waited a few more miles, they would have reached Elim, a twelve-spring oasis. This is where so many of us panic. Three days into a trial, we assume it will never end. Then comes manna, and they hoard it. God is retraining a traumatized people to receive His care daily instead of grasping out of fear.
