Okay, so lets face it from time to time we are cheated.  I would make a guess that no one was cheated quite like Jacob was.  This story is just the beginning of Jacobs tale of woe.

When God speaks we need to listen, even if it's in a dream that's little bit on the "awesome" side.  Jacob the father of many starts out on his journey to his new life and even though he's just betrayed his father and brother God was still able to use him.

Who know that one decision to trick someone you love would lead to so much trouble in the end?  Let us finish the story of how Jacob stole his brother's birthright.

One deal is all it took to change the direction of two entire nations and all over a bowl of lentils.  Like a splash in a pool of water the choices we make to get what we want has ramifications beyond anything we will know.

Toward the end of Abraham's life the torch of the promise that God gave him to "bless the whole world" needed to be passed on to Isaac. 

Genesis 22:8 "And Abraham said, My son, God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering: so they went both of them together."   KJV    In one short verse so much is said about the coming savior.

Sometimes we find ourselves in a place we didn't expect, life took a sharp turn for the worst, that is what happened to Abraham's second wife.  Abraham also finds himself confronted once again by the leader of a pagan nation and must choose how to handle it.

Abraham once again finds himself caught in a "lie".  Often in our own minds we try to justify sin, for one reason or another.  Lets talk about how Abraham twice lied about his wife and a, seemingly pagan king called him out.

"Assuredly, I say to you, it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgement than for that city!"  -Jesus

Jesus tells us to learn from the judgement of Sodom and Gomorrah, not for the sake of fear but of the sake of the love we have in Christ.

Sodom and Gamora is one of the most familiar stories in the Bible.  Even if you are not familiar with it, this story will make you rethink what we think about God's judgement but also God's grace.
