Erik and Aicila hope you will be inspired to dive into the rich cultural landscape that is Black History. Since 1976, every American president has designated February as Black History Month and endorsed a specific theme. The Black History Month 2020 theme, “African Americans and the Vote,” is in honor of the centennial anniversary of the Nineteenth Amendment (1920) granting women’s suffrage and the sesquicentennial of the Fifteenth Amendment (1870) giving black men the right to vote.

Aicila & Erik are excited to share their conversation with Theo Wilson. A founding member of the Denver Slam Nuba team, who won the National Poetry Slam in 2011, Theo began his speaking career in the N.A.A.C.P. at the age of 15. He published his first book in 2017, “The Law of Action.” The book addresses some of the misconceptions about the law of attraction, and the role direct action plays into manifestation. It can be found on Amazon.com, or his website. In 2017, his TED Talk entitled, “A Black Man Goes Undercover in the Alt Right,” was seen world wide, amassing a total of over 12 million views. He has been featured on BuzzFeed, CNN, Good Day Canada, and TV One.

Rev Roger Wolsey spent some time talking with us about his efforts to meet people who come from different perspectives and get to know them. He identifies as a liberal man who wants to reach across the aisle and get to know the men he has spent time judging. We loved his article, Tough Guys Need Friends, and Cancel Cancel Culture (both are linked below). His wisdom, humor, and dedication to a better world were inspirational. We hope you enjoy this conversation and please reach out and let us (and him) know what you think!

This episode explores the question, how does race impact the financial inequities of modern America? We spoke with Alex Hollingsworth of the Off the Record Podcast about the Racial Wealth Gap, roots in slavery, possible solutions, including reparations, and how that benefits our country.

Erik and Aicila spent some time talking with Steve about his view of the ways in which we are being convinced to work against our best interests. Our conversation ranged from politics to the Denver Broncos to George Carlin. We loved hearing Steve's perspective. He challenged our assumptions in a thoughtful way. We hope you enjoy listening as much as we enjoyed recording!

We figured since we are kind of nerdy and into this stuff and we have been massively confused about what impeachment is and why it mostly looks like an adolescent popularity contest (turns out that's how it's designed), we thought we would dig into it and share what we discovered in case any of you are having similar confusion.
First a HUGE thank you to Jessica and the BodyCountPod Crew! She put together this fabulously helpful and engaging overview of impeachment history- http://bit.ly/2KBCM1i
We reference a few news articles and the constitution linked below, as well as things we looked at but didn't actually quote on the show. In the end, our best advice is to realize that impeachment is unlike any other form of court process you have experienced. In a lot of ways, it is about whether or we as a country believe that what happened is right or wrong, there isn't much in terms of objective data to compare with. We hope this helps!
What is Impeachment? (from the dictionary of course) the action of calling into question the integrity or validity of something. "the prosecutor's detailed impeachment of the character witness" BRITISH a charge of treason or another crime against the state. "the king cynically abandoned him, encouraging his impeachment" US a charge of misconduct made against the holder of a public office. "the president is facing impeachment over the scandal"

BiCurean takes typically combative topics and teaches them to play nice.
Our view is the mainstream reactionary rhetoric divides us and only helps those invested in the status…
We seek to find answers beyond the most obvious. Join host Aicila as she digs into topics ranging from social and political to geeky and fun. Aicila is looking for the "BiCurean Moment"- the point where contradictions meet or are embraced.
BiCurean was conceived of in 2011 by Aicila as a podcast and originally created as a blog. On hiatus since 2021, she's been eager to start back up.
