Lady Ribbon’s History of Finger Foods
You’re invited to Jo Anne’s 12th birthday at the Mandarin!
Today’s episode starts off with a tasty question from Julia to whet your appetite, “what is the one thing that you miss or can’t wait to come back after the pandemic?”
Julia misses the theatre and concerts, Jo Anne can’t wait to touch things without fearing for her life, Emily ruminates about the dying bowling industry, and Sam just wants to get a fancy cocktail at a bar! and honestly, who doesn’t?!
Pre-pandemic life was simple *sigh*…so what if we could go back? Way back? To, like, when we were 12? This pandemic can stop us from going out but it can’t stop our imaginations from eating as much jello as possible at the Mandarin! and that is exactly what pre-teen Jo Anne wants for her 12th birthday. So grab some crab legs, pizza and chicken balls from the buffet and take a bit out of this episode that is full of hormone-driven mood swings, preteen angst, misplaced affection and lots and lots of jello!

The Schecrets of Schweppes
In this week’s episode of Big Chick Energy Presents: The Hatch! An Improv Social Podcast,
Emily asks the Chicks what is the most grossest yet satisfying thing they have ever eaten. Jo Ann starts it off by noting the cognitive dissonance that occurred when she saw/ate purple ketchup for the first time. YUP. Makes sense because that was certainly an odd marketing choice.
Emily’s gross/satisfying fond food memory: Meat Lamp Pizza Pizza from the Toronto CNE. And then it just becomes a Food Tell All. Subway tuna sandwiches don’t actually contain tuna?! What’s that, Jo? The bread also contains a material that can be found in yoga mats? Perfect. Horse hair is also found in bread according to Emily!!
Julia’s sister worked at a concession stand at the Pickering Cineplex. She sold “meat dogs”. No, no. Not “hot dogs” - meat dogs. Think about that for a quick min. They legally could not call them hot dogs. “Filler and a little bit of meat or horse.” Mmmmm.. GROSS. Yet. Satisfying.
And then there goes Sam… adding a little je ne sais quoi to people’s love of cheeses - oh wait, we sais quoi. Wood pulp! Yeah. Word on the street is that there’s a whittle bit of wood pulp or sawdust swimmin’ in your pre-shredded parmesans and cheddars.. Careful out there. Would you eat a little sawdust over mystery meats?
This unveiling of interesting food ingredients leads the Chicks to an improv scene set in Victoria County, Ontario. More specifically, the Lindsay Fair. Have you ever been?!
An owner of an all-meat dog kiosk at the fair is accused by the local newspaper journalist of putting human meat in her “all meat” meat-dogs. A mother and daughter duo are separated and reunited - quickly… A psychic reads the palms of the meat-dog kiosk owner only to find a long meat-line? What does a long meat-line indicate? Could this be the end of small businesses at the fair? Dun, dun, dun... Find out on this week’s episode of The Hatch! BYOM. #bringyourownmeat

It’s the first episode of Big Chick Energy Sketch Presents: The Hatch! An Improv Social Podcast!
In this very exciting premiere episode, we get to know The Chicks a little bit better when Julia asks us all to share stories about our favourite childhood toys.
Sam’s fascination with motherhood led us down a winding path of an elaborate fantasy mom life she acted out at the ripe young age of 8. Or 9. One of those. Jo Anne shared her suspicions that her toys would move freely at night as she slept - so obviously she had to set a trap to find out if that was true! And this was pre- Toy Story by the way.
Emily regaled the troupe with tales of her electronic “Dear Diary” (it’s basically just a calculator with a small amount of data storage) which mostly contained entries about boys she liked, and Julia shared a moving story about her grandma, who fought tooth and nail to keep the dessert bar at Pizza Hut - as well as a Tickle Me Elmo that Julia later ruthlessly threw away. But it’s ok, she found it again.
But the piece de resistance was Alicia’s caterpillar. And we’ll let you listen in to find out what that means - because - seriously. Her story is a mind exploder.
And of course we piled all of this madness into an improv scene at a playground, where the little neighbourhood kids fought amongst themselves, became possessed, and told legendary tales of… THE SANDBOX MAN.
Who is he? What does he do to the children? And the moms? And the juice boxes? Oh my goodness, you’ll have to listen to find out!
The best part? Sam finally lived out her childhood fantasy of being a mom in full on #momlife at the park, arranging playdates, sipping Starbucks, and taking care of “business” in full view of everyone around her.
It gets weird.
