Big Crown Radio

This episode comes to you by way of Jukka Sarapää founder & Co. owner of Timmion Records Ltd.

When Jukka is not touring the world playing drums with Bobby Oroza and Cold Diamond & Mink, he can be found recording sweet soul, raw funk or cutting master lacquers for the next 12" or 7" of your favorite jazz/pop/house/metal etc. artist at Timmion Records Studios inside the subterranean caves of Kaapelitehdas, Helsinki, Finland

When playing records, his selections tend to take the obscure route, leaning on moody mid-tempo soul and ballads. Nevertheless, he's sure to also have your favorite organist and Stevie Wonder records back home neatly filed up.

The second part of the recording from the Big Crown Pop Up Record Fair / Food Drive back on July 15th. Enjoy.

We had another Big Crown Pop Up Record Fair / Food Drive back on July 15th. Another great day in Brooklyn, Big Crown style… Heavy duty amounts of records as well as sets from some of NY’s finest DJs. Thank you very much to the DJs who came through and blessed us with music; Queen Majesty, Chairman Mao, Greg Caz, DJ Preservation, MF Classy Chris, Jah One, and El Michels…We had to break the recording of the sets into two parts because it is long as hell. This part is DJ Preservation, El Michels, Chairman Mao, and the first part of Queen Majesty’s set. Stay tuned for part 2.

The second volume in a collection of psych rock, garage, pop, and soul 45’s assembled by Dreas of the Grand Rapids Soul Club. Limited edition cassette tapes with original artwork by Grace B available on May 25th via Chicago’s Royal Hands imprint.

An extensive listen into the production, song writing, style, & sound of The Brothers Of Soul a.k.a. Bridges, Knight & Eaton. Recorded in the summer of 2007 by Young MF Classy Chris.

Vinnie Esparza has been DJing in and around the San Francisco Bay Area for over 25 years and had been part of the Groove Merchant Records crew for over 15 years. This hour-long vinyl mix showcases some of his favorite styles of music, starting with heavy sweet soul and ending with blazing cumbia. Enjoy!

"Let Love Flow For Peace," named after the wonderful Sunbear track featured on it, is a mix without a grand plan or any real ulterior motive other than capturing a mood, in this case what a chill afternoon at Greg Caz's house can sound like. It covers a few genres and styles but hopefully also displays its own weird inner logic. There's stuff from the dustiest of crates but also fresh fire from the last year or so, including tracks from a pair of fiery 2017 releases by 80+ year old legends. Enjoy!

Oliver "O-Dub" Wang of Soul Sides and the new Heat Rocks podcast dips into his vault of cover songs.

Back in September we went up to Chicago to DJ the release party for Sunny & The Sunliners “Mr Brown Eyed Soul” album hosted by the good folks at Soul Summit. While we were up there we also stopped in to The Sportsman’s Club to play some records that they recorded on their reel to reel. Here is El Michels set recorded live to tape. A whole bunch of great sides, enjoy the music. When in Chicago, make your way to both Soul Summit & The Sportsman’s Club, both great spots we had a blast at.

Our own Danny Akalepse lays down some 45 sides for his next episode of Stop The World. Tune in, tune out, Stop The World.
