Sometimes life gets crazy and podcast episodes can’t come out on time. Sometimes, schedules mess up and leave me 2 weeks without an episode. Sometimes, I just feel like chillin out, relaxin all cool and not doing anything. When these things happen, you get this, a news update! But no worries, it’s not #FakeNews.  This is the real deal.

Today We Get Spiritual

Jasmine Eye, or Poor Rich Woman (rap moniker), is a conscious rapper, creative and oracle. She’s an amazing woman that has shown me nothing but love since day 1, when I met her at the vegan restaurant V-Eats.  Before I say anything else, just check out her music. She’s dope.

Things I like about her music:

* Word play. This woman can spit and put some nasty rhyme schemes together. Her sound echoes to the days of Nas, Tupac, but has this modern day edge.

* Her flow is tight. Like I mentioned above, her rhymes are dope, but her flow is straight naaaaassssttttyyyyy.  She has this aggressive sound she makes when she raps about something deep. But she can also turn it into desperation or light heartedness depending on the mood of the song.

* The Videos!  Her music videos are deep. Peep the colors she uses, the extras in the videos and the overall symbolism. It’s awesome.

* Her lyrical content.  If you like Lil Pump and all that other stuff, cool. But if you wanna listen to something that makes you scratch your head and think, I prescribe PoorRichWoman’s music.  She discusses, race relations, politics, lifestyle choices and much more.

I’m a fan of hers and will definitely be ready to listen to her new music as it comes out.  She’s so intentional on making music and that comes through post production when all is said and done. I might loop back around to this blog and add more hip hop content, but for now, just listen and enjoy this episode!

Follow and Like His Pictures

Ahmed Al-Kadri (@ahmazing645) is funny.  We spent the afternoon hanging at his place and shooting the shit. It was a great conversation. We started with his love of comedy, moved onto religion, always fun, chatted about his family and then came back full circle in the end. Here are some things I loved about the conversation that I think everyone could benefit from hearing…or so I hope.

Ahmed, if pursuing his dreams. He’s big on visuals. He has a vision board and reminders all over his apartment to remember to be an awesome person.  This drive keeps him focused on his goals constantly. He also journals and writes a lot. He let me see his journals, dude is serious.

If you have a dream, I highly suggest you start making a plan. What’s the first thing you need to do to help you? Do that. Find another small goal, and do that. And keep on completing small tasks, until you get your end result.  As the saying goes, ‘The only way to eat an elephant, is one bite at a time.’

I sincerely hope you enjoy this episode and I’m sorry for not typing the obligatory 300 word blog that is supposed to optimize SEO and other cool stats that drive people to my page, but I’ve found in the past that that doesn’t work anyway. Hey people! Enjoy this awesome episode with Jefferey Spivey, a writer, author and overall positive presence.  We discuss a myriad of topics ranging from his upcoming book, To Do the Right Thing, to music, to politics. It was an amazing conversation and experience.

Confidence Level 9000

Dahlia Turnbull is EASILY one of the most confident women I’ve ever met. You see her Instagram (Dahlia’s Instagram) and you know this woman has confidence for days!  She is an actress, streamer, co-host of her new show (The Mo And D Show) and overall badass.  She has done videos with huge youtubers such as Lilly Singh.  She kills at accents, which is not something I say easily. Most people make me cringe when they slap on an accent.  I loved chatting with her.

We chatted about a lot of different things, as usual.  I can’t even pull one ‘lesson’ or ‘takeaway’ from the conversation because it flowed so easily and hit so many different topics. I will say this though. If you want to be happy, follow your passion and dreams.  I know I harp on that a lot, but it’s because it’s true.  We live in a country where we get an education and we can create markets for just about anything. I mean…there are even PROFESSIONAL CUDDLERS!   I’m not Hillary Fan, but damn I feel this quote.

I think what strikes me the most about Dahlia is her confidence, because she realized that she could be a model, an actress and anything else she wanted to be. She just had to believe in herself and work her a** off. Which is exactly what she did.

If you’re at a point in professional life where you don’t know what you want to do, I highly recommend taking this quiz by StrengthsFinder.   The goal of Strengths Finder isn’t to tell you what you’re good at, but what you’re NATURALLY GOOD AT. This is very different, because instead of focusing on your weaknesses, it focuses on your strengths.  We all love being good at something.  If you have a job that you hate, use this to start looking for jobs that utilize strengths, so you can find something that is easy, fun and you’ll be successful at.  I’ve used it almost every time I make a big career change and it always helps me adjust, communicate expectations and find culture fit.

So, find your strengths.  And hopefully this helps you find a career that plays on them. Take care!

Adventures of Wild Cody

Cody Rankin, the wild man, the adventurer, only person I know who hikes during temperatures of 100+degrees.  Check out the beautiful pics he takes here.  But seriously, I love our conversation this week.  What I love the most is we discuss mental health.  Cody uses hiking, not just to see dope ass mountains and cool rivers, but he also uses it to connect with nature, get some alone time and slow down his mind.  Coming off of a divorce, this was critical to him finding peace.  It’s inspiring to hear him discuss how hiking has changed his life.

So, do you have to hike to be happy? Lord, I hope not. I would be screeewwwwweeeedddd. But, if you are feeling stressed by work or everyday life, I suggest you find an activity to help.  This activity doesn’t have to be outdoors, you could go the gym, cook food, go for a walk, paint, draw, jog, swim, canoe,…see where I’m going? You can do a ton of things! I just suggest, not watching TV. Let your brain and body connect while do something.  I hope you do something, because this life is short and we need to live it up as much as possible.

Something I really appreciated Cody was that he was willing to do this Instagram, when nobody that he knows really does something like this.  It’s hard to start something when you don’t know how people will react.  But Cody has found nothing but love and support.  I think that’s true for most things.  So, don’t be worried about salty people, go try something and I bet you’ll find people who will support you.  We all need community. That’s #facts.

Dog’s Best Friend

Is your dog nappy? Is it’s hair all over the place? Connor Posey, the founder of Posey’s Pups knows that a fresh cut leaves dogs happier. I mean, it works for you right?  Check out his work above! Well it also works for dogs. Now, I met Connor through mutual friends and there was one thing I knew from the beginning: He loves dogs.  I mean, he truly loves them.  I am still taken aback by how much care he puts into grooming dogs and how much he notices about the dogs he grooms.  He notices their mood, their behavior, their ability to empathize and uses this to find ways of keeping dogs calm during their grooming sesh.

But one thing that I found more interesting than his passion for dogs, was his background. Connor, grew up pretty much hating school and work that didn’t involve animals.  He is a rebellious soul with a streak of doing what he loves.  So to hear him talk about his past, the troubles, the rebellion, the general bad decisions we all make, was so juxtaposed to his present.  In his present, he’s a business owner, friend to many, and a man who seems to grow positive and good relationships with his clients.

We talk about a lot of things: dog grooming, his experiences with animals, veganism, weed and divorce.  He opened up and shared so much about his life. I’m truly grateful for his vulnerability.

One thing I’d like to leave you with, as a listener and reader, is to be mindful of animals.  If you’re a dog owner, get them groomed, bathe them, walk them, and take care of them.  So many animals are suffering because people want to a dog, but don’t want to take care of them, and that sucks. A lot. So, if you know someone who has a pet and is amazing at taking care of them, tell them to keep being awesome!  Dogs are pretty incredible and Connor definitely educated me on them.

AutoAuto AI is Moving Education into the Future

AutoAuto AI, a local Austin Educational Company, is comprised of Co-Founder, Joyce Rigelo and CTO Ryan Henning along with a team of amazing people.  They are paving the way for computer science education by teaching students how to control autonomous cars using machine learning and artificial intelligence by teaching them Python code.  #MindBlown! Kids, as young as 6, are learning AI and machine learning. At 6 years old, I was yelling at my Nintendo, because I was positive it kept MAKING Mario die in Star World 3.  These kids are awesome af.

Ryan was one of my instructors when I learned Machine Learning and I can say that he is a true problem solver and creative mind.  It’s great to know that he’s out there teaching younger students the beauty of computer programming and complex problem solving.   So what do these students do?

Well, the students begin by coding just 2 lines of code to get the car to move. This is amazing because it empowers them to continue to want to learn. Having been an educator, I can’t stress enough how important this is. What if you could do just 2 things and see results?! You would want to keep doing it. This ability to build confidence along with cool cars hooks in the students and keeps them learning.

We need more programs (pun intended) trying to teach students skills that are relevant to today’s world.   Joyce feels strongly about this saying that technology can sometimes be the only way to strive to better situations for many people.  I couldn’t agree more.  Here’s a great article explaining how technology can widen or narrow the wealth gap.(http://opinion.inquirer.net/107865/technology-worsen-poverty) .  Joyce sees teaching students to code as a way to empower them and teach them problem solving skills.  She loves seeing students learn, get excited and light up at the thought of ‘unveiling’ the magic behind coding.

Using dance as a way to get some therapy after an abusive relationship, Tisha decided to leverage her skills in business, planning and overall badassness to instruct dance and open a studio.  Needless to say, she has been a huge success and spends her time traveling to different cities for coaching opportunities, as well as, modeling and dance coaching.  So, how does one woman get so damn good as so much?

Love Yourself

Well, when I asked Tisha what she wanted people to takeaway from her episode she emphasized that she wants people to feel confident and to embrace their awesomeness.  And if you just follow her Instagram, you see exactly what she means.
