Chapter 2 begins by outlining admirable qualities of a man of God, just as chapter 1 describes the qualities of a true church, but underlying these qualities is one central truth - the gospel.  The Apostle Paul gives three defining aspects of the gospel in these opening verses - it's opposition by the world, it's divine commission and it's genuine love.
