My grandmother had to be very thrifty in order to make ends meet.  Even things as little as buttons and shoelaces were important in daily life and, therefore, they needed to be cared for.

The cookies smelled so good! Sure, Dad said not to touch them, and they were placed in a cookie jar, but they were freshly baked and they were chocolate chip cookies. And they smelled so good! As we look around at our world, sometimes it appears everything is falling apart. The geo-political issues that threaten us, the environmental issues, our culture ... everything seems broken.

But what can be done? The issues are so big.

Perhaps if we ignore them, they will go away. Then again ... maybe they won't.

"America is a melting pot." It's an outdated story ... but maybe we got rid of it too soon. Perhaps we should reconsider the concept. Is a "melting pot" a good thing for society?
