This episode of Big Witches Go Wild! is a love letter to every woman who is done being the “good girl,” the quiet supporter of broken systems, and the endlessly productive human doing.

It’s about the moment you stop apologizing, start saying a full-bodied “fuck no,” and step fully into your witch, your rage, your rest, and your power.

From childhood shame to modern patriarchy to Blood Moon medicine, this conversation traces the journey from being quietly shaped by the system to consciously refusing to play its game.

We begin with full messy-hair, haggard-witch energy: sick kids, brutal tooth drama, antibiotics and probiotics, and spelling bee nostalgia complete with a homemade bumblebee dress, and memories of wearing the same outfit for multiple school pictures several years in a row, nevermind the busted tennis shoes. Those stories pull us into a deeper conversation about class, appearance, and shame— (hello, Patriarchy!!) Payless shoes, teasing that resulted in ripping shoes apart, the experience of moving into a giant unfinished “orphanage” house, while working paper routes and saving for Shopko jeans.

From there we zoom into the present: mothering neurodivergent kids inside broken systems. We cover a flurry of email advocacy with a local school district around inequities in the school choice process for students with IEPs. We talk about the invisible labor of advocacy, the importance of belonging and strong school leadership, and how families without time, language equality, or resources often get left behind.

To regulate our nervous systems in the middle of it all, we wander into EMDR-style practices, binaural beats, tarot pulls, and rooms full of silver-haired witches quietly doing democracy work through Indivisible.org—writing postcards, organizing, and holding the line.

Then we go hard at patriarchy and beauty culture: calling out a workplace “mantrum,” setting firm boundaries around men at work commenting on our bodies, and unpacking how modern beauty standards are deeply entangled with patriarchy and, as it turns out, pedophilia. Eyes are open on this issue and there's no going back!

We give a shout-out this week to the brilliant online educator Therese, and her work on witches and whores, (links below); we joyfully reclaim the word “hag,” invite you to “hag out” with us, and name this Blood Moon season as a portal to release over-exertion, perfectionism, and the exhausting identity of being a human doing.

In this first episode of the Lunar New Year, we dive straight into the deep end of our current moment: the patriarchy’s slow‑motion collapse, the shock waves of the Epstein files, and how tribalism and indoctrination have numbed so many people to empathy and accountability. We explore how patriarchy has harmed not only women and children, but men too—cutting them off from their feelings and forcing them into shallow, performative versions of masculinity—while we also honor the “good guys” who are bravely unpacking their conditioning in public, in families, in therapy.

We also bring it home to the personal: clearing old storage units, burning diet-obsessed journals, finding childhood tithing ledgers in tiny handwriting, and realizing just how early money, body, and religious control stories get wired in. As cycle-breakers, we discuss ending generational trauma in real time, setting and enforcing boundaries (including in co‑parenting, with tools like OurFamilyWizard), and learning to release “sisters for a season” with self-created closure and gratitude for the lessons.

We discuss our kids (healthy) aversion to competition— but also love on boys’ volleyball as a softer, more expressive space— and honor a fiercely anti‑competition daughter choosing gymnastics team on her own terms; and the importance of letting kids know themselves and choose their own path.

Balancing all this heavy with our normal dose of witchy humor, we share about “Cray‑cation/Cry‑cation” tales, the infamous “orphanage on Abbott Road,” cats insisting on co‑hosting, and fantasies of renting out the kids’ gymnastics gym just so we can yeet ourselves into the foam pit (BYO chiropractor).

We close by recommitting to creating and connecting in this new energy—Heather by joining a local makerspace, Ashley throwing herself into pottery, and we launch a new “Song of the Day” feature, beginning with a stunning pre-/post‑transition duet of Coldplay’s Yellow by a beautiful trans artist Dylan & the Moon. This episode is a love letter to bad witches, bad bitches, and everyone doing the messy work of waking up, healing, and creating something more honest from the ruins.

Some weeks we have happy hour, and some weeks we have sad hour. (Such is life, amiright?!).

In this deeply honest episode of Big Witches Go Wild!, we step right into the heart of our family’s story, sharing how the losses of our mom and our baby sister, Hailey, fundamentally altered our worlds. We reflect on how grief—raw and consuming—demanded not just survival, but real transformation. Through candid conversation, we reveal the ways that loss caused us to become untethered from the life we knew, pushed us into reimagining what connection means, and ultimately taught us to carry both deep deep sorrow and hope side by side.

In this trip into some of our darkest hours, we don't sugarcoat the pain or skip to “silver linings.” Instead, we linger in what’s real: the confusion, the disorientation, the long, hard work of grieving—and the unexpected moments life gifts us when presence returns, sometimes in the form of hummingbirds, lights, or unforgettable dreams. 

We still find space for laughter, sibling solidarity, and wild memories (like roasting veggies while living side by side with rats in London), to the daily activities that keep us human, like changing preferences around coaching our own kids in volleyball, that help carry us forward.
