We’re back, bitches! At long last, Better Call Saul has returned for its second season, which also means that the Better Call Saul commentary has returned as well. For the next ten weeks, Jack and I (yeah, apparently Supka had something better to do with his time) will be walking you through the life of Jimmy McGill as he continues on his journey towards becoming Saul Goodman.

Well Bingers. As we outlined last week, James Cameron did everything in his power to ensure there were no more sequels. There’s a novel idea. Make a film that has no business getting a sequel. After two sets of futuristic chase film goodness, wrapping everything in the series up in a tight bow with 1991’s Terminator 2: Judgment Day seemed to be the most logical thing to do.

But, as we have seen time and time again, when talking about money, logic goes out the window. And so, the 2000s  have so far brought us  three  additions to the Terminator film universe. Two of which, 2003’s Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines and 2009’s Terminator: Salvation. are getting discussed today.

As Matthew Goudreau and I filter through the roledex cards associated with the plots of these films, we ask ourselves the exact same question over and over again: were these films really necessary?

Throughout this 90 minute plus set of podcast goodness (not really), Matt and I talk about everything from how a foreign model by the name of Kristanna Loken came to be Ah-nold’s foe in Terminator 3 to how much McG’s unwavered directing style really contributed to the Terminator aesthetic, if at all. Oh, and Matt continues to show undying affection to the man who would become California’s governor by the time Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines hit the home video circuit in 2003.

Here we are again people. One year removed from its very polarizing 5th installment, I decided to go ahead and take a look at the multi career launching Terminator film series, once again going through the films and rating them one by one. But of course I couldn’t do it by myself. And with Jason either too drunk to join or deciding to sit this one out, I had to go out and grab someone to talk Arnold speak with me. Which, as you can imagine, is not an easy task.

Enter my old Adventure Amigos riding partner Matthew Goudreau. You’ll recall that last year, he joined me on the Aftertaste for an interview of film director Katt Shea. Now, I hope he realizes what he has gotten into as he begins the journey of watching the Terminator movies and rating them with me. He agreed, as long as I didn’t do the ol’ ‘hole in the popcorn’ trick, which Jason fell for time and time again. This week, we start with what is known in Terminator circles as ‘the James Cameron era.’ To some, these are two of the best films ever made. But will they be to us?

Join us as we talk about everything from Cameron’s role in starting the cinematic strong female action hero movement to just how much these two films made Arnold’s career. I also get a little too complimentary toward Edward Furlong.

No time to mess around this week, as this is one jam packed show. What does ‘jam packed’ mean, anyway?

Of course, even with a sense of urgency, Jason and I don’t move things any faster. We start things off by talking about our most anticipated movies of the year, with Jason saying Benedict Cumberbatch’s name in a way that needs to be heard to be believed.

After this bit of nonsense, Jason and I get filmmaker Brandon Slagle on the show to speak about all aspects of the business. He mentions how he got his new directorial effort House of Manson distribution, and why he is more proud of this effort than his other films. Slagle also mentions his ‘BFF’ Ben Affleck, and how he feels Ben is going to do in Batman Vs Superman. More things about the action genre are spoken about, and we finally let the very busy Slagle go back to his duties.

Unfortunately, House of Manson is only being distributed in the UK for the time being. But keep an eye out for physical distribution in the US soon. Any UK listeners (ahem, Nate) here is the Amazon UK link to purchase a copy. Despite a pretty off and on Skype reception, this was a very interesting conversation and we look forward to speaking with Brandon again in the future.

But that isn’t all. Much like the action theme of this particular show, the action never stops as I finally get old favorite Adam Simon back on the show to let loose on his current Hollywood thoughts. Oh sure, we speak about how his films Synapse and Man Down are coming along in the distribution department. But we cover even more topics. From his buddy Clifton Collins Jr’s book Prison Ramen to his thoughts on Star Wars: The Force Awakens to even some Oscar talk, there is no topic off limits. Expect more participation of Simon, as well as more about Prison Ramen, in the Aftertaste’s future.

Jason and I close the show off by talking about our own feelings on how the action genre is holding up in today’s climate. Are we in line for even more spandex ladened franchises? Will there be another The Matrix to knock our socks off? Was The Matrix even original?
