Every once in awhile a guest comes on the Binge Aftertaste and makes us look dumb. Granted, it is not that hard to do so to us. But we knew almost immediately that once we got author Jennifer Brody on the line, we were in for some intelligence questioning. It’s good for assholes such as us.

Before that though, Jason and I pay some tributes to those in the entertainment business who had fallen the week we recorded. Both David Bowie and Alan Rickman get their due diligence. But Jason had some personal interaction with The Tall Man himself, Angus Scrimm, and he shares that experience with us. It’s interesting hearing the career Scrimm had that went far beyond his role in the Phantasm films. Rest in Peace to all.

We then get Brody on the line and it is off and running. She shares things such as how her family reacted to her going from graduating from Harvard to working for an at the time in its infancy Platinum Dunes run by the one of a kind personality known as Michael Bay. Interactions with both Bay and Marilyn Manson are shared, and Brody gradually transitions to how she ended up  working on the Lord of the Rings trilogy for her hero Mark Ordesky. Some new information about the films is given, and it is safe to say that the success of that trilogy was a meeting of some amazingly brilliant minds.

We then get into Brody’s book The 13th Continuum, the first of a trilogy of hopeful post dystopian stories about otherworldly attempts to revive a fallen humanity. We also talk about how she optioned the book to be made into a film, and her attempts to get her movie to be directed by a woman, as well as why she would never adapt her own book into script form. She also drops information on how hard she worked on trying to get Guillermo Del Toro to realize his passion project The Mountains of Madness, and how close it came to getting made.

The show moves on to Jason and I giving our Oscar predictions. What began as a look at the four major categories somehow got derailed into talking about at least two others. By this time we were too drunk to keep track.

Wrapping up his portion, JLaw (yup) gives his thoughts on The Program. Ammon follows with The Big Short and Joy. Moreno eats tacos.

Or as I like to call it, the podcast that almost wasn’t. After getting Jason to finally leave the alcohol table and Nate Peterson to get up at 3 AM to record the second (and final?) part of this retrospective, I forgot a sort of important part of recording a podcast. 40 minutes into blabbing about Back to the Future, I realized I forgot to hit the record button.

Not only do we get into this story, Jason, Nate and I do have other business to attend to, which consists of dissecting the two sequels to a movie that was not originally destined to have one. Lots of questions are asked and (not really) answered in this complete breakdown of Back to the Futures Part 2 and Part 3.

Why is Crispin Glover not here, and how much is he missed?

How much of the future did they get right?

Why does Doc Brown peel off his face?

How the hell did Ohh LaLa not catch on?

Why do I now have the tendency to go play the TellTale game?

Plus, listen as Jason gets more and more slurred and drunk as the podcast goes on. After two plus hours (actually almost three if you count the lost 40 minutes) you can imagine how much his mic was holding him up. A little over two weeks into the year, I don’t think the craziness that comes with this podcast will be topped.

Law bitches about Joy and In the Heart of the Sea, and then continues on with Chiraq, Creed, Spectre, Spotlight, and The Big Short. Moreno is pissed off about Black Mass. Ammon, at machine gun pace, talks about The Force Awakens, (It’s a-me,) Sicario Everest, Shaun the Sheep, Kingsmen, The Peanuts Movie, Bone Tomahawk, Bridge of Spies, and Dark Places. FUCKING WHOA.

Welcome to our first Aftertaste of the new year. To usher in 2016, I decided to throw Jason a bone by doing a retrospective on what he has called on the air one of his favorite movies of all time. Needless to say, Jason is very excited to not talk Star Wars anymore, and in turn talk about something he actually cares about.

But hold on, Bingers. There’s more. To spice up this retrospective, I brought in my old friend and Binge voicemail favorite Nate Peterson to offer his own opinions on the entire series. Is he as high on Back to the Future as Jason? Why am I so cynical when it comes to the series? What can we expect to see from this experience of watching the movies that we haven’t seen before? Is Nate going to get so heated throughout this retrospective it will be the lawst time he appears on the Binge airwaves?
