With a rising star and hugely popular young adult series of books -let's not forget the Twilight in the room- it would seem that The Hunger Games was set to become a phenomenon. But to prevent the fate of future failed series Divergent, the people at Saw studio Lionsgate not only employed original author Suzanne Collins to help pen the script and produce, they also got a well renown director in Gary Ross and an $80 million price tag to kick things off in blockbuster fashion. But would the series continue on its path, and will Garrett, Adam, and Matt enjoy the journey through all four films of the series?

To people who read a certain type of books, the year 2012 was known as one thing. The year all our Marvel comic book heroes were finally going to come together for Joss Whedon's The Avengers. But on the horizon was another type of hero. One with the highly original name of Katniss Everdeen. But the casting of the character was pivotal in setting a standard of how serious Hollywood took this little franchise that could. But even with Mystique Jennifer Lawrence shooting arrows in the lead role, does Gary Ross kick the series off in an overall way that pleases us hosts?

Join myself, Matt, and the returning Adam as we dissect the first film of this four movie franchise, and wonder how much Matt sees X-Men in this young adult series.

The Hunger Games (2012) (?/10, ?/10, ?/10)

The Guys try something new and do a live commentary for the 2019 NFL Draft.  In somewhat of a tribute to the Wake and Bake with Bob Ross show on our network, we go all over the map and discuss Game of Thrones, Avengers Endgame (no Spoilers), NBA Playoffs, NHL Playoffs and MLB.  All this while commentating the first 13 picks of this years NFL draft.  We are also trying to go Facebook Live periodically throughout the show, and that is somewhat of a failure.  Enjoy!

Law and Moreno dissect episode 2 of Game of Thrones final season (aka: "We Good?") and become uncomfortable with how comfortable everybody is with everybody else. This isn't going to end well for a lot of people next week. What exactly is Dick Beach? What's up with Ghost? Why do guys with no penises get the hottest women? These are just some of the questions the boys answer in their quest to make this show even better (worse) for all of you.

Jay and Nate

There's an old saying:  "when one brings back a show to a podcast network, one must turn it up and bring the noise".  I'm lying, that's an Anthrax song featuring Public Enemy.

It's been a while since Binge Media has had a Monday Morning Moreno show but the podcast gods have aligned.  For its return, I tapped one of Binge Media's favorite listeners, callers and friends to tell a heartbreaking story for the masses.  Jay Black has been in the Binge and old site community for a while, always providing laughs via his call in characters but now, he's returned to the Binge airwaves for something completely different.  Jay's wife, Bibi, passed away from lung cancer some time ago and he abruptly went dark on social media.  When I caught wind of Bibi's passing, I reached out to Jay to lend my condolences, for which he was appreciative but still understandably short and concise with his words.

Jay, Lance and Art

Fast forward to our yearly event, Lawlapalooza 2018, and to my surprise Jay showed up to the city of Chicago to hang for some much needed bonding time with friends.  I remember seeing him and giving him a giant hug filled with happiness and sadness.  Jay and I had some somewhat "serious" conversations over the years that wasn't about movies or tv or anything like that.  It was about life.   I'm sure to most he was the same ol' Jay but I could see the loss in him.  He was there, but he wasn't.  There was a giant hole in him, and his once vibrant and smirking eyes that always led to some mischief or funny one liners were black holes.  One thing we have in common is that we both deal with emotions through laughter.  And that summer, he was there, but he wasn't.  I knew why, but there was no way I was sharing his story.  It was his story to tell not mine.

Over the last few months, Jay and I reconnected and he was ready to talk about what he was and is still going through.  It took some time to get here, to the point of recording, but here it is finally.  One of my biggest takeaways from this show is that while it took time for Jay to talk about his life and the final months of Bibi's life, and though that in itself is a catharsis, the devastating hole in his heart from Bibi's passing may never be filled.  He'll be dealing with this loss the rest of his life, as will his girls.  But all we can do is move forward and Jay is, day by day.

This wasn't an easy show to record, and it's not an easy listen.  But if you know Jay, you'll want to hear his story.  And if you don't know Jay, here he is at his most honest self.

In the show we discuss music that helped Jay deal with things.  RIGHT HERE is a Spotify playlist.

Here's Jay Black's story of feeling left behind.

Thank you, Jay.

In the middle of the night, at a strange creepy cottage in the middle of nowhere, Liz, Moreno, Jess, and Law record a commentary for the classic Sixteen Candles to kick off Easter weekend. I know none of that makes sense.
