  • Binge Movie Aftertaste – X-Men Retrospective w/Matthew Goudreau and Mike Batchelor: X2: X-Men United (2003)
Before Disney and the Marvel Cinematic Universe took over all things comic book, there was 20th Century Fox and X-Men. If someone wants to see what the comic book film landscape looked like, just take a look at 1989's Punisher and 1994's Phantom. But then came Blade (which we'll cover eventually), a movie that came out in 1998 and proved that cinematic movies based on comic books could indeed be financially successful. And after a lot of false pretenses and multiple script changes, Marvel's X-Men was finally ready to roll before cameras with little known director Bryan Singer behind the camera. Little did we know that not only would this franchise have a lot of peaks and valleys, but the Mouse House would eventually swallow its rights up whole. Will Garrett, Matt, and Batch enjoy the ride up to and through this year's Dark Phoenix?
After the original X-Men was released and a proven success, director Bryan Singer determined the second film in the franchise was going to be his next project. Repeatedly coming out in the press and proclaiming that the second X-Men film was going to be his Empire Strikes Back, Singer reunited his cast and also brought newcomers Alan Cumming and Kelly Hu aboard. The result is still looked at by many to be one of the best superhero films ever made.
Join Matt, Batch, and myself as we get to the bottom of whether or not that last proclamation is true, and whether Singer made do on his promise. And come back next week for our review of Brett Ratner's X-Men: The Last Stand.

  • Binge Movie Aftertaste: X-Men Retrospective w/Matthew Goudreau and Mike Batchelor: X-Men (2000)
Before Disney and the Marvel Cinematic Universe took over all things comic book, there was 20th Century Fox and X-Men. If someone wants to see what the comic book film landscape looked like, just take a look at 1989's Punisher and 1994's Phantom. Will Garrett, Matt, and Batch enjoy the ride up to and through this year's Dark Phoenix?
2000 was a non interesting time for comic book movies as with the exception of Blade, there was nothing really setting the box office on fire. That is until little indie filmmaker Bryan Singer came out with X-Men, a movie which set the Marvel machine in motion to where we are today. But how do we feel about it?
Join myself, Matt, and Batch as we begin this look at the series which started it all with 2000's X-Men, gearing up for the release of Dark Phoenix, being released June 19th courtesy of 20th Century Fox!

There are almost too many questions to be answered during our penultimate commentary for Game of Thrones but Law and Moreno do their best to get to the bottom of all of it. Everything is fine. • Binge Movie Aftertaste – The Hunger Games Retrospective w/ Matthew Goudreau and Adam Bunch: The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 (2014) and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 (2015)
With a rising star and hugely popular young adult series of books -let’s not forget the Twilight in the room- it would seem that The Hunger Games was set to become a phenomenon. But to prevent the fate of future failed series Divergent, the people at Saw studio Lionsgate not only employed original author Suzanne Collins to help pen the script and produce, they also got a well renown director in Gary Ross and an $80 million price tag to kick things off in blockbuster fashion. But would the series continue on its path, and will Garrett, Adam, and Matt enjoy the journey through all four films of the series?

Working off one book, Lionsgate saw dollar signs when The Hunger Games: Catching Fire far exceeded box office expectations, Lionsgate controversially decided to split said book into two parts. As a book, it is agreed upon that Mockingjay is a far departure from what came before it. But how do we feel about how the two films based upon it come off?

Join myself, Matt, and Adam as we do two movies in one and close out our Hunger Games Retrospective. Hear how we feel about the decision to split one book into two movies (spoiler, we hate it) and what kind of quality those films ended up with. And be sure to join us next week as we delve into the X-Men franchise, leading up to the release of Dark Phoenix!
