Before Disney and the Marvel Cinematic Universe took over all things comic book, there was 20th Century Fox and X-Men. If someone wants to see what the comic book film landscape looked like, just take a look at 1989's Punisher and 1994's Phantom. But then came Blade (which we'll cover eventually), a movie that came out in 1998 and proved that cinematic movies based on comic books could indeed be financially successful. And after a lot of false pretenses and multiple script changes, Marvel's X-Men was finally ready to roll before cameras with little known director Bryan Singer behind the camera. Little did we know that not only would this franchise have a lot of peaks and valleys, but the Mouse House would eventually swallow its rights up whole. Will Garrett, Matt, and Batch enjoy the ride up to and through this year's Dark Phoenix?

Eight years after promptly leaving Fox in the dust to do Superman Returns, director Bryan Singer felt he had something to prove. So, in his own little way, he set off to make his own version of Marvel's The Avengers by gathering both his old and Matthew Vaughn's new casts together for the ultimate in X-Men movies, an adaptation of the much heralded series of comic books entitled Days of Future Past.

Join Matt, Batch, and myself for perhaps the most spirited discussion in this series yet, as two of us find Singer's 2014 film to be a new standard of X-Men films in a class all by itself. And one of us....doesn't.

By the time 2011 rolled around, X-Men was no longer the only successful comic book property on the block. The Marvel Cinematic Universe were al most finished with their first Phase, and DC was not only one year away from concluding their Nolan trilogy of Batman films, they were also entering the fray with the Ryan Reynolds starring Green Lantern. Enter director Matthew Vaughn's X-Men First Class, a movie whose advertising campaign left a lot to be desired. A movie that looks this bad couldn't possibly be good, could it?

Join myself, Matt, and Batch as we mosey along toward our review of the just released Dark Phoenix, this time taking a look at Vaughn's lone X-Men entry. Did we like it as much as its legacy has told us to?

Word started creeping around that after his third solo film about the razor clawed berserker filled Wolverine, which would mark 9 movies and 17 years of playing the character, Hugh Jackman was planning on retiring the old bub. So he got his old buddy James Mangold back in the director's chair for what would be his final go around in an X-Men film. What resulted was 2017's Logan, one of the most well received comic book films ever made.

Ammon and Law are back with another episode of Angry Drunk Movie Dads! After briefly talking about the 9-month break since the last episode (pre-Halloween), we dive deep into all the fun shenanigans we get to deal with as parents of kids in their pre-teen years and how it drives us batshit crazy.

It was fairly obvious early on that star Hugh Jackman had embodied the character of Logan and Wolverine was in fact the standout of the X-Men series. So following the third -and at the time final- film in the overall X-Men franchise, execs saw dollar signs in exploring the origins of certain characters within the universe. Why not start with the most popular? What could POSSIBLY go wrong?
