The Birdhands gang survive to their 50th episode and decide to reward this milestone with a classic.

This week we sail away from the usual crap and watch one of the best movies ever made. Steven Spielberg's killer shark masterpiece "Jaws" is one of the first summer blockbusters and set the tone for the movie industry after it terrified audiences in 1975.

Put some sunscreen on. And bring a towel because we are about to get wet, for JAWS!

The Burning.

A somewhat overlooked slasher film from the early 1980's. Well made and has the added bonus of Tom Savini handling the gore effects.

Plus a few future stars that got their start being stalked by Cropsy at a camp filled with very old looking teenagers.

This is really worth the watch so cue it up with your best friend Birdhands!

Zombie 3? Or Zombie 2?

Depends where you live I guess. But for us, this is really Zombie 2. Was it worth the almost ten year wait between the first and second?

No. No is was not. This is basically an endless montage of zombie fights. And to call these zombies is a bit of a stretch. They kind of took every type of zombie and included them here. Super slow Fulci types are seen. Then they are kind of slow Romero types. Then there are talking Return of the Living Dead types, and finally super fast Ninja types. It is so unfocused it can be a chore to watch.

But if you are as strange as we are you will probably want to have a look at this car crash of a movie. Anything with a flying zombie head is worth one viewing!

 

Trick Or Treat 1986.

A heavy metal horror film with Gene Simmons, Ozzy Osbourne, Skippy, and Large Marge.

This cult horror movie seems to ride the backwards masking scandal of the mid eighties. Teenagers all over the world were listening to heavy metal and playing their albums backwards to hear subliminal messages. Usually telling them to do something bad.

Hollywood took notice and churned out this somewhat enjoyable teen revenge horror flick.

Will we be banging our heads to the music? Or banging our heads off the wall while we watch this one for the first time in decades.

Cue the movie up. Not backwards though, and join Birdhands this Halloween season as we ask...Trick or Treat!

Samurai Cop!

A Samurai who is also a cop. Nothing can go wrong with this one. We can martial arts mayhem and all sorts of great action scenes all portrayed by some of the greatest actors of our time.

Have you ever seen the cover or poster of a movie a million times but have never actually seen the movie?

I have found that is a common thing with horror movies from the home video era of the mid eighties. My eyes gazed upon the box art of the VHS of "Basket Case" so many times I cannot even remember. The art had the classic blood red letters and some kind of green creature with horrifying eyes peeking out of a basket. All I remember about the back of it is that it had the shot of the lead character hanging from a hotel window. Back then the video box art was a common source of spoilers. But hey, once you realized that the box had ruined the movie it was too late. You had already rented it.

I never ended up renting it during the VHS era but did see it on DVD at some point and was not that impressed due to its grainy dark picture quality. But thanks to modern technology we now have a great bluray version of this cult classic.

Sure it may not be everybody's cup of tea, but it is worth viewing at least once. If just for the room trashing scene alone.

Degrassi High finally comes to an end with the beloved Canadian ensemble cast in their first feature film. This was a made for TV movie that was a really big deal in Canadian history. It was the first use of the F word on television in Canada. Plus the story of these high school kids ends on quite a downer for the time it was released.

But don't take our word for it, cue up the full movie and join us as we watch Joey and Caitlin finally get it on and then break up in...School's Out!
