In this Birdland Media Works interview, Danielle Palli talks with guitar virtuoso Jami Gee. Playing everything from Bach to Broadway and Flamenco to Rock, Gee has been a musician for more than 45 years, and has backed groups such as: The Temptations, The Four Tops, Little Eva, Peggy March, Johnny Thunder, Dee Dee Sharp, Danny and the Juniors, The Shirelles, Joey Dee and the Starlighters, The Coasters, The Platters and The Marvelettes. She has also played with The Florida West Coast Symphony Orchestra, The Sarasota Pops, Herbie Mann and several Broadway shows, including The Man of LaMancha, Kiss Me Kate and Dream Girls.
Jami Gee also happens to be transgender and is an advocate for transgender awareness and education. In this interview, Gee speaks candidly about the violence and discrimination facing the transgender community, and what we - as a culture - can do about it.
