This is another instalment in the 'Bitcoiner Book Club' series. When either myself, or others read a book that they thought was interesting, relevant to bitcoin, and worthy of further discussion, we put together one of these chats.
The guests reviewing the books are always different, and are usually included because they asked to be involved (I've found that 4 is a good number). The crew today is Daniel Prince (Host of the OnceBitten Podcast), Jace Hartzler (Bitcoiner), and Ray Youssef (Founder and CEO of Paxful).
Unsurprisingly, this discussion became more about the implications of the scenario which the book describes, and related subjects, more that a methodical review of the contents of the book itself. Of course, with a subject this large and influential, there are a million rabbit holes we could have gone down, which means we were inevitably unable to explore many of them. Hopefully what we did end up discussing was useful, interesting, or valuable nevertheless.

2 hr 38 min - What Is The 'Spirit' Of Bitcoin? - Broadening The Discussion On 'Upgrades' w/ Guy Swann
Guy Swann is a friend, bitcoiner, and creator and host of 'Bitcoin Audible', a podcast where he reads the top articles in the bitcoin space, and provides extensive and valuable commentary on them.
Last week Guy and I recorded a podcast in which we discussed the recent 'banking crisis', and the individual psychological dynamics that are involved (both cause and effect) in a financial system like the one we currently have.
We ran out of time to cover the other topic which I was hoping to discuss with Guy, which was the upgrade process to bitcoin. In my opinion, there is insufficient discussion of the logic or rationale of potential upgrades to bitcoin, no clear framework on how one might balance known and unknown risks and rewards, in the process of forming their opinion on, ultimately, how they 'define' bitcoin for themselves - what they believe it should and could 'be'.
So, we spent the bulk of this episode covering that topic.

Guy Swann is a friend, bitcoiner, and creator and host of 'Bitcoin Audible', a podcast where he reads the top articles in the bitcoin space, and provides extensive and valuable commentary on them.
I've known Guy since I've been in the bitcoin space, but we hadn't spoken in a while, so we booked a podcast to have a catch up and discuss some things happening in bitcoin that I was hoping to get his opinion on.
As it turns out, the day of our recording was Monday the 13th of 2023, when the US Treasury / Government / Federal Reserve, took actions to 'not bail out' Silicon Valley Bank, and take possession and shutter Silvergate and Signature bank (which serviced the bitcoin and 'crypto' industry).
As a result, we used our time to discuss this topic, how we think it was handled, the systemic dynamics that lead to it occurring in the first place, and our many critiques of them, and finally, why 'bitcoin fixes this' :)

In this discussion, Aleks and I discuss the motivations and process behind writing and publishing his first book (with co-author Mark Moss), the shift in mindset he experienced in 2022, and the resulting change in focus and how he 'engages' (online), and his recent article on why he believes 'hyperbitcoinization' will likely take significantly longer than many proponents are expecting.

Jacob Wolki is an Australian entrepreneur and regenerative farmer. He started out in his family's record store, then moved to selling bicycles, and in 2019, went down the regenerative farming rabbit-hole, which he's now built into a rapidly growing full-time business.
I first came across his work when he released a video which went viral, in which he showed how his un-staffed retail location worked.
Many bitcoiners, including myself, are increasingly interested in the subject of regenerative farming/ranching, so I was excited to speak with someone who entered the space with no formal background, and has been successful in turning it into a career that is enjoyable, fulfilling, and lucrative.
Jake appears to be an honest, hard-working, principled, and thoughtful guy, and it was a pleasure to get to get to know him and learn from him in this discussion.
