  • Creating Your Irish Study Group (Ep.40) [Re-run]

There are several things you can do to improve your Irish language learning process. You could start by immersing yourself in Irish (by listening to audio and watching videos such as our Irish pronunciation videos) or by finding a group of people to practice what you’ve learned.
Creating your own study group is a good way to practice the language with other people. Learning Irish on your own is great, but it’s always better to have someone to practice the language.
You can start your study group by going to Irish Gaelic events in your area (such as immersion weekends) and meeting people which have the same interests as you. If you want some help in this direction and also need some tips on learning Irish Gaelic, please give the rebroadcast of the 40th Bitesize Irish Gaelic Podcast episode a listen.
In this re-run of the Bitesize Irish Gaelic podcast, in the English language, you can meet Devin Blankenship who visited Ireland several times and decided to learn the language. Devin founded a regular study group in Bloomington, Indiana (where they also run their annual immersion weekend).

  • 3 Bold & Unusual Predictions for the Future of Irish Gaelic (Ep. 39) [Re-run]

One worthy goal of learning Irish Gaelic is to make sure that the language keeps living on through the people who speak it. We could say that the future of the Irish language is unsure (and probably controversial) so we ventured out and made 3 bold & unusual predictions.
Our 3 predictions are related to the Connemara dialect, the Irish language’s accent and simplification over the years.
This is a rebroadcast of the 39th episode of the Bitesize Irish Gaelic Podcast. When it originally aired in 2015, it received a lot of interesting feedback from our audience. Some people saw our predictions as a little too grim, while other agreed and shared their feedback.

  • What’s Your Reason for Wanting To Speak Irish? (Ep. 38) [Re-run]

Every time we step out of our comfort zone and start to do something hard, we need a pretty good reason. If you start exercising then you do it to be healthier, when you change your job it’s because you want a better lifestyle, but what about when you start learning a new language?
What’s your reason for wanting to speak Irish Gaelic?
From our experience, most people who start their journey of learning Irish Gaelic do this because they want to strengthen their connection with their Irish heritage and they want to have that ‘feeling of belonging to something bigger than yourself’.
Of course they’re other valid reasons for wanting to speak the Irish language. If you have a few minutes, we recommend you to listen to this rebroadcast of the Bitesize Irish Gaelic Podcast – episode 38 and discover 10 reasons to speak Irish Gaelic.

Ireland is a top destination for tourists from all over the World. We don’t know if it’s the “amazing weather”, the beautiful landscapes or the spirit of the Irishmen, but people are adding our country to their travel bucket lists – which makes us really happy.
In fact, some people from the Bitesize Irish Gaelic community are learning the Irish language because they will visit Ireland and want to spark conversations with locals or relatives.
There are a lot of online tools for people who want to discover Ireland including videos, maps or text guides – it comes down to what you feel comfortable using when visiting.

  • Learning Irish In Small Regular Pieces Really Works (Ep.36) [Re-run]

Irish Gaelic isn’t the easiest language to learn so you will have to adjust your learning process if you want to achieve a conversational level of Irish, or even be fluent in the language.
You don’t have to worry though. Adjusting your learning process so you can master Irish Gaelic can be done with ease, if you’re enthusiastic about doing it, and you don’t see it as a chore.

Adjusting your learning process for Irish Gaelic is actually about being ready to use more additional resources and to learn the language in small regular pieces (The Bitesize Method). For this to work you will need to immerse yourself in the language by going to Irish language events, listening to Irish radio, watching Irish TV or Irish Pronunciation Videos.
Next, if you want to discover how you can learn the language in small regular pieces, we recommend you to listen this rebroadcast of the Bitesize Irish Gaelic Podcast – episode 36, where Eoin talks to Karen Reshkin about the process of learning Irish. Karen is an accomplished Irish language speaker and she has some great insight if you want to learn it in small regular pieces.

  • Connect to Ireland’s Real Culture Through Song and Irish Gaelic (Ep. 35) [Re-run]

What would you say is the best way to connect to Irish culture? You could start learning a few things about Ireland’s history and geography, but that’s only going to have an improved general knowledge about the country. If you really want to connect to Ireland’s real culture, you can do that by starting to learn the Irish language, at your own pace, or immersing yourself in Irish.
Do you think that learning Irish Gaelic is a big task? Well it probably is, but that shouldn’t keep you from doing it. You can start slow by signing up for a free trial and go on from there. If you want to immerse yourself in Irish, there are several ways you can do this. You could start listening to Irish audio podcasts, radio or watch Irish pronunciation videos on YouTube.
