Freelancing is often presented as a path to freedom, independence, and control over one’s time. Yet many freelancers still feel the need to appear constantly busy, productive, and successful, especially on social media. In this episode, I compare “pretending to work” as an employee with the same behavior as a freelancer. For employees, slowing down can be a form of self-protection within an unfair system. For freelancers, however, performing busyness can become self-exploitation. True freedom does not come from looking productive. It comes from creating meaningful work, using time honestly, and no longer needing constant approval from others online.
