Has being harmless become a modern virtue? In this episode, I explore why calm, agreeable, non-confrontational personalities are increasingly rewarded on social media and YouTube. There is nothing wrong with kindness or peaceful living, but being harmless is not necessarily the same as being good. Real conviction can create conflict, ambition can look uncomfortable, and meaningful action often involves risk. Drawing on the idea of Nietzsche’s “last man,” I ask whether a culture obsessed with safety, comfort, and avoiding offense may also be losing intensity, courage, and adventure. Is living safely really the same as living well?
